#1 thekafka Jan 29, 2011 12:18:08	Ok. Here is the short version. I have a 20th level fighter that just became a demi-god a while ago; I have been playing this character for about 12 years now. We play dnd game with a little bit of all the rules so from 2.0, 3.0,3.5, and 4. We try to get the best out of each one and the dm has the final say so.   I will be getting approached by a very powerful God in the near future to work for him or her. What I want to try to do is ask for them to make me into their high priest and make me a 20th level priest of them. But my dm is very strict ( I like that ) and I have to get the wording PERFECT down. Any help one how I could word that one sentence would help greatly.

#6 tequila_sunrise Jan 29, 2011 20:27:39	Pretty please, with cherries on top? ...Honestly, this is an incredibly vague question. If you're literally asking how to form words, nobody here can really help you. You know your DM best; so be polite and ask however is most likely to work.
#7 Fireclave Jan 29, 2011 23:38:43	Do you simply want to be a high priest for roleplaying reasons?  Ask to be ordained into the upper levels of the priesthood.  You don't need the Divine keyword to wield a sword in the name of your god, just the conviction to serve a higher cause.  If you don't consider that qualified enough, consider that a) even without training, your 20th level character is probably more versed in religious matters than most common priests due to your 1/2 level bonus, and b) if a god is seriously going to entertain this request, its because you've proven yourself already, if not though loyalty to the deity itself, then through your conviction to similar ideals. Do you just want to add a bit of divine power to your character?  Then having a god approach you is a excellent excuse to take a multiclass feat.  Even a strict DM can't shoot down that option unless said DM has already houseruled multiclass feats out of their campaign.  And hey, even if the god decides not to sponsor you, you're a Demigod.  You can sponsor yourself. Are you simply tired of playing a Fighter and simply want to try playing a different class for a change without FUBAR'ing the whole plotline up to that point?  Talk to your DM.  Narratively speaking, having a god personally approach you would be an excellent opportunity to write a complete character rewrite into the story without it seeming arbitrary.  And unless the game's dynamics hinges on either you mechanically being a Fighter or mechanically not being a divine class, then a conversion shouldn't inherently cause any problems.  Though, again, this is something you should discuss with the DM.

( i like playing a undead alot so i dont want that to change) here is my charactes stats.... 14th level fighter (oger)  6th level undead wight. STR   40 DEX   23 CON - INT   17 WIS  23 CHR  25

So what is it that you would want your character to be able to do?  Just saying "I wanted to make him in to a priest" doesn't give us much of a mechanical direction to go.  Like I said earlier, you can be a "priest" with any divine class backing you up.  But it sounds like you want some mechanics. It looks to me that you are playing primarily with 3.5, which does invalidate some of my previous advise since I was assuming 4e.  I will say that gaining anything resembling competent casting will be a challenge at your level since your spellcasting and caster level will be so far below the curve.  Though a quick dip would get you access to scrolls, wands, and staves. You might want to consider dipping into the Crusader from the ToB for some divine combat abilities.  Half you non-martial adept levels would add to your initiator level, so you could get level-relevant abilities fairly quickly. And again, if you're just not having fun with the Fighter, you might still want to request a rebuild with the justifications I previously listed.

You keep using that word.  Do you mean "Cleric," which is a specific character class? like i would like all my past exp converted in to a priest. This is impossible by the rules.  The only way for this to happen is for your DM to allow it, so you'll need to discuss it with him or her.
#12 HengeGuardian Feb 27, 2011 23:27:57	Try looking at the "Rebuilding your Character" section which starts on page 191 in the 3.5E Player's Handbook II. It should at least give you some mechanical guidelines to work through with your DM to re-concept your character.
