| #2pluisjenJan 27, 2010 4:38:06 | I'd rule bombing to follow the throwing rules for a distance like that, except you take a -2 penalty for distance or something and you can only target things that are no more then a single range increment away on the horizontal plane. Once you get up further, you don't roll at all, and your attack misses automatically unless you either have a massive blast (which is placed on the field randomly) or a lot of ammunition (which is simulated by a large blast attack placed randomly with a Ref save negates) |

| #4pluisjenJan 27, 2010 7:05:06 | No, at a height of 100ft you can use an attack with a -2 penalty for range. You auto-miss if you go much higher (ie: 500ft or 1000ft up) since by then you'll no longer have any control over the projectile. It takes so long to fall you can only predict where it lands, plus the wind currents would probably send it off in another direction anyway. |
| #5jgumbyrxJan 27, 2010 7:45:51 | I'd rule it as a regular ranged attack, with the following modifications: first, make sure that you that you model this in 3 dimensions (as opposed to the normal 2 dimensions of a battle grid). - if the trajectory is less than 45-degrees (i.e., more vertical than horizontal), consider it a drop - if the trajectory is more than 45-degrees (i.e., more horizontal than vertical), consider it a throw - a "drop" has unlimited vertical range, but make sure you you still impose range penalties (to account for stuff like wind/drift, the change in PoV, etc.); but for the purposes of penalties, either double the range increments, or half the penalties - for "drops" that also have horizontal trajectory, make sure that you count ALL distance for range penalties - for damage, add weapon damage + "damage from falling objects" (see DMG) (totally optional, and should NOT be used for anything that weighs less than 1 pound). - for every 2 range increments you are above the ground (normal, not the modified from above), you get an extra range increment along the horizontal plane how does that sound? does it even make any sense? |
