Your character could be some nature-bound person who realized he had interesting magical powers (1 druid level) and he decided to study how he could break down and use these powers for other purposes (thus the artificer levels). 2 is this worth it at all assuming i do at least 5 levels of artificer Both druids and artificers are very strong classes, but they need to be played with a creative mind that looks at all the options. An artificer, in particular, can break the game very early on, but you have to know exactly what you're doing. It's possible to do both, but you're going either forfeit druid spellcasting levels (at least 5? and they can't be gained back? Yuck!) or 5 artificer levels (I honestly don't know much beyond the fact that they're highly abusable). Story-wise, I think an artificer (someone who studies the creation of magical items and the breakdown of magics itself) would have little to do with a Druid, someone who is much more concerned with the natural balance and order of the world, or at least one thing in the world. An artificer learns his craft through hard work and study, whereas a druid gains his powers from the grace of some Divine and Natural power. Artificers need Charisma and Intelligence, and a Druid needs high Wisdom. I guess they both benefit from a decent Dexterity, but as a Druid begins to be able to shape-shift, he has less use for physical scores. You need three good mental stats and at least a positive Constitution and Dexterity. For an extended campaign, it's going to be really easy to spread your stats too thin too quickly unless you're rolling for stats and you get 3 high rolls (3 17s or 18s). It doesn't sound worth it to me, unless you splashed that single level of druid, in which case you would be fine (but not maximized). 3 is there any real reason to take artificer past 5 ? why or why not You should go to the Character Optimization boards for this answer. Then again, I have this hunch that a friend told you it's not worth taking any levels of artificer past 5, and I think you should play whatever you would have most fun with. If you don't know what you would have fun playing as, think up an idea of an awesome character from some book or something and get a class that fits close to that. |
| #3praxJul 28, 2009 4:00:03 | what I was looking for was a druid with a second construct pet. And the artifcer weapon casting dint hurt plus the early item feats that's why I say level 5 for retain essance |
