| #1tyrantlobeJan 07, 2011 14:47:52 | This question is going to be completely dumb, but I can't seem to find the obvious answer: I have a level 4 Tempest Fighter, base AC of 16 with not armor. Currently wearing Nightmare Ward Leather Armor +1, which puts my AC to 19. I decided that i wanted to beef up the defenses a little, so I started looking at chainmail. When I equipped the chainmail, my AC was still 19. Wha? Isn't chainmail +6 to AC? Shouldn't my AC go up to 22? What am I missing? Thanks. |

Chain is heavy armor. So you have 10 + 1/2 level (2) + Dex (4) = 16 10 + 1/2 level (2) + Dex (4) + leather (2) + enchantment (1) = 19 10 + 1/2 level (2) + chain (6) + encahntment (1) = 19 Edit: actually, i think tempest get a bonus, so your dex is probably 3... |
| #3WolfLordBranJan 07, 2011 15:19:50 | Okay, let's see. AC10 for showing up, +2 for half level. That's 12 and since you said 16 w/o armor, you have must have an 16 Dex to get the +3. There's 15, plus the 2 for leather and then 1 for enchantment. There's AC 19 w/ armor and dual-wielding (Tempest granted feat). Now Chain is heavy armor, so you don't get to add Dex in to your AC. Because chain grants a +6, you're effectively getting the +2 for leather, +1 enhancement, and 3 from Dex all wrapped together. |
