#1 jkssappioling Feb 20, 2014 9:15:50	Hi!. My party is lost in a dungeon and we came across an undead creature. We possess a pair of enslavement rings (DnD 3.5 edition) and I thought that we could use these rings (master and servant) to make him our slave and force him to guide us out of the dungeon but i don't know if this will work because undead creatures are immune to mind affecting spells and the rings works like the spell "suggestion". Will it work? Thanks
#2 iserith Feb 20, 2014 10:38:47	According to my reading of the rules, the ring would work in its basic function (sending messages and such), but would not work as far as the suggestion goes. The DM would have to override these rules for the compulsion effects to work.   Another tact might be to get some kind of leverage over this undead creature and then use that to persuade or intimidate him into helping you. In order to get leverage, the creature must have some kind of motivation which your DM may or may not have considered. I would ask the DM about that and then figure out a plan to get leverage.
#3 Chiba_Monkey Feb 23, 2014 23:56:52	By a strict reading of Rules As Written, no, it would not allow you to control the undead creature.   As iserith said, the messaging function of the spell would work, but not the control.   This is okay as far as balance, because there are other items and spells that allow one to control undead creatures.  Command Undead is a 2nd level Wizard/Sorcerer spell, and does wat you're looking for as far as controlling an undead creature.
