Equipment for Gargoyle character?

I recently got back from a course in the Philippines after 6 months and rejoined my regular D&D group. Now, we had just started a new campaign before I went, so my character is now pretty low level compared to the other players. The DM levels us up pretty quickly anyway, the result being that my Gargoyle was basically level 1, level 3 I think including the level adjusments and all that (maybe level 4).  All the other players are level 9. The DM gave me a nice option for what had happened with my character which I rather liked, however while this allowed me to instantly gain some levels and get a nice and much needed damage boost, I am stil lway behind when it comes to equipment. Basically all I have at the moment are a bracers of defense + 1, the other players carry around equipment of a value of roughly 30k.

We are playing 3.5, and I would say that any addition or book within 3.5 is allowed. I am not sure what to get for my Gargoyle. I am sure you could argue that a tailor made piece of armor for example shouldn't be to much of a problem, but I would prefer to use items that would make sense somehow, either tailor made or actually existing. For example, two of the other players have a crystal that apparently citcles around their heads and boost one of their stat scores (strength and dex I think at the moment) by one. Apparently this stacks with any other quipment as well. I have no idea where this comes from, I never heared of it before, but I already figure I could have something similar, only I use it as a false tooth. I am sure the DM would allow it.

Thinking along these lines, it would be fun to get some whacky items for maybe my horns, my wings etc. Any tips would be appreciated, I am not yet at the state where I know every item in every book. Not even close. Classwise, originally I was going to play a Ninja, but I have no idea how to play one. I already know that my character wasn't always a Gargoyle, he used to be a human Bard, but with a Charisma score of 4 that is not really an option. So most likely he will just be a fighter or something.

Not exactly an equipment suggestion, but parties with huge level gaps = bad, especially since you already have an LA keeping you behind everyone else.

Off-topic, but something to note ... unless this is some homebrewed Gargoyle race, you have 4 racial HD and a +5 Level Adjustment, meaning you're a 9th level character without any class levels.

The stat-boosting stones that orbit a character's head are called Ioun stones.

Yes, what the DM did in the beginning was pretty much take all my hit die, my flying ability and pretty much all the Gargoyle racial traits to try and get a lower level adjustment. I am not interested in starting a discussion about whether or not this works, it worked for us and we all had fun and that is what matters. So basically, I had to stay close to one of the other players because I was bonded with an item that one of them carried. However, they have been dimension hopping and when I left for the Philippines my character got separated and has been trying to find them again. He has had his own travels and adventures during htis time, which means he has leveled up as well during his absence. That is the angle we are playing at anyway. He just found them again, and he has his hit die now (going from 10 hp to 37 I think), gotten some feats (multi attack which is nice with his four attacks) and the damage reduction. The only thing he doesn't have yet is his ability to fly.

My DM has so far suggested a Cleansing Hat, which I will probably use because it fits his backstory and I can maybe do something with his horns there. I will probably also get Talons of Shredding + 1. The DM also suggested an Amulet of Warding and Eyes of the Eagle, but I think I will pass on those.

EDIT: Also, I will probably take at least one Bard level because of his backstory, and I think you can do the +1/+1 bardic music thing without any rolls anyway. But yes, this does mean that we will have some classes that are level 11, while my class(es) will still be level 1. I am sure this provides problems, but I am not the only exotic character with a level adjustment (though I think I have the highest) and anyway, we are making it work and everyone is having fun. There's hasn't been an argument yet, so who cares? Smile
