I am playing a caster for the first time in my life and could use some insight and maybe some stats on familiars. We are in an Eberron setting. We have gone to the Mournlands and retrieved the shema pieces etc.. and have returned to Sharn. This is ecspecially nice because the DM is finally letting me get knew spells. I am just shy of fourth level now and he said while we are in the city not only can i get any first level spells i can afford to pay for and allowed me to pick any three second levels (paid for) and gave me four others, which makes me happy since we have played 40+ hours now and I was getting tired of magic missle and Burning Hands.

Anyway -sorry went a bit off topic

I was told that in addition to getting my spells and researching a piece of my heritage (some Valenor double bladed scimtar with glowing runes that I am keeping and driving the melee classes nuts because they really want to use it) that i could get a familiar while we were stopped. I have been doing a lot of research and so far the hummingbird is the most attractive. I could really use the initiative, rather it's for casting or archery (I am an elf). I considered a toad for the HP since only have 13 HP but thought being able to get my damage off first might be more of an advantage than being able to take a few extra points of damage. There were some that raised certain skills like spellcraft but I am keeping that maxed out anyways.

I can't find the stats on the hummingbird anywhere so if anyone could shoot them to me I would be really grateful and if anyone has any other ideas on familiars I would appreciate that too.

For the record the DM is good - the style is just knew and the xp slower than I have ever seen, but the conversation and role playing are out of this world.

Dragon Magazine 323 Page 98.

Though I don't have it with me at the moment, so can't give the exact stat.

I still gotta' throw Raven out there. They can learn a language, which means they can know command words to activate wands. Which means if you have ranks in UMD, your familiar can be a miniature cleric.
