#1 drackgon Nov 07, 2009 23:11:49	Hey all well i was wondering if anyone might answer a cpl questions. I used to play 1st,2nd edition back in the day and later played 3edition i actually used to dm alot back in 3edtion where in 1st and 2nd i was a novice to all my older friends, anyway well ive been really wanting to get back into dnd after acpl year break and seeing that 4th edition is out im really wanting to try it out. but i live in a small ass town and im wondering these questions.. first off any online dnd games like chat sessions i know people used to do these but any one know of any? and if so plz post a link or info on it plzz. also how is 4th edition havnt gotten my hands on any books yet but just wondering its it a big jump from 3rd im  not asking for a big detail but 1st and 2nd was thaco 3rd was of course the d20 system 4th=? thnx for all the help and i hope to get back into gaming soon and hopefully meet some kool peeps soon   "edit oh sorry if this is wrong forum"

#3 tonmeist Nov 08, 2009 5:25:30	The D&D test drive at wizards.com/dnd/TryDnD.aspx is always a place you can look, though Keep on the Shadowfell can be sort of a party kill. And it was a really major rewrite on whats going on in the background and with what attacks actually do, but once you've got the character sheet done its still pretty much roll a d20, add something to it, possibly do something The quick start rules have a variety of combat info and some premade characters.  You can get an idea of what the powers are like by looking at them but if you actually had the books there are more options then just you get these powers and all these stats.

#5 tonmeist Nov 09, 2009 0:59:10	I only know of a few that are play by post, I don't personally know of any play by chat ones.  rpol.net, roleplaymarket.com, roleplayinggames.net are the ones I know of.   You may be able to find a 4e game on one of those.
#6 warrl Nov 09, 2009 3:22:34	4th Edition is a complete rewrite of the game, just like the jump from 2nd Edition to 3rd... I disagree. 4e is much more of a complete rewrite than 3e was. I'd go so far as to say there's more change from 3.5e to 4e than there was from AD&D (roughly version 1.5) to 3.5e. For online play-by-post or play-by-chat, try Plothook (looks like not much 4e chat at the moment, but eight 4e PBP currently running, and probably at least a couple dozen games in assorted systems soliciting players).
