| #1firestarrageMar 26, 2010 16:21:32 | Okay, I am having issues figuring out the multiclass system in 3.5v. Is there a step-by-step tutorial that easily explains it? I am trying to figure out how to do a couple characters: Half-Dragon 4lvl Fighter/2lvl Wizard Elf 4lvl Rogue/ 2lvl Bard Any ideas? Please help me. |

It makes a difference because 1st level determines your starting max hit die hit points and x4 skill points. The fighter/wizard has more hit points if fighter is 1st level than wizard while the rogue/bard has more skill points if rogue is 1st level than bard. Once 1st level is determined, everything else really just falls into place. When you gain a level, just add in normally as if single class for whatever class you level up in, such as BAB and saving throws. Anything specific you are having difficulty with? |

Character Level is the sum total of all Class Levels that a character has and determines Character feats, Ability Score increases, and the amount of experience a character needs before leveling again. This info is located in Table 3-2, page 22 of the PHB. For example, an Elf Rogue 3 has 3 Character Levels and should have: At least 3,000 xp, need at most 3,000 xp to become level 4, have a maximum of 6 class skill ranks, have a maximum of 3 cross-class skill ranks, and 2 feats (not including feats granted by levels in a class). Class Levels are how many levels of a specific class that you have. For example, an Elf Rogue 1/Bard 1 has 1 Rogue Class Level and 1 Bard Class Level. This in turn means that the Character Level of the Elf is 2 (Rogue 1 + Bard 1 = Character Level 2). If you decide on using a more powerful race or template (as I believe Half-Dragon is), then an additional step is required. I don't remember what the EL adjustment of a Half-Dragon is, so I will use a Drow for my example. In the case of the Drow, it has an Effective Level adjustment of +2. This means that for the purposes of gaining experience and treasure, a Drow Rogue 1/Bard 1 has a Character Level of 4. In all other ways, it is treated as a Character Level 2. |
| #4Calamity916Mar 26, 2010 20:20:28 | Now, let's break down the Elf Rogue 4/Bard 2. At Character Level 1 you make an Elf Rogue. You acquire: Rogue Weapon and Armor Proficiencies All simple weapons, hand crossbow, rapier, sap, shortbow, shortsword, and light armor. Elven Racial Weapon Prof Longsword, longbow, composite longbow, and composite shortbow. Notice that I left off shortbow since you acquired it from your starting class. Base Attack Bonus +0 Hp 1d6+Constitution Modifier Save Bonus +2 Reflex (Table 3-15, page 49) Skill Points (8 + Int modifier) x 4. Class skills cost 1 skill point for every 1 skill rank increase, with the maximum rank of 4 at Character Level 1. Cross-class skills cost 2 skill points for every 1 skill rank increase, with a maximum rank of 2. There are formulas for this on page 66 but table 3-2 (page 22) already has this figured out. A most handy table. Rogue Class Skills Too many to type. Rogue Features Sneak Attack (+1d6), Trap Finding. Character Level 1 Feat Any that you qualify for. Starting Gold 5d4x10 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Caster level for any given class is equal to your levels in that class. You only multiply your skill points by 4 at your first character level. You basically just take a 4th level rogue and a 2nd level bard and combine them. |

I am trying to figure out how to do a couple characters: What is the base race of the 1/2-dragon. Also they is a problem with Elf 4th level Rogue/ It a multiclass character's level become out of sync then you suffer a exp penalty. Favored class effects this. A elf's favored class is Wizard...so a 4th level Rog/ 2nd level bard is out of sync...so you would suffer a exp penalty.
