| #1477ashtongyApr 04, 2012 20:02:23 | Today was my first game with my new Dungeons and Dragons group, and it was absolutely wonderful. Being a somewhat experienced DM and having already creating a character, I helped our DM (Luke) get everybody started on character. First I helped my friend Collin, who is absolutely new to the game and was excited to try. Then I helped Clayton and Michael, who are familiar with the game but are a little rusty and don't know a lot about making characters. Here are the characters we ended up with: (Me) A human Cleric of Pelor, NG, who was sent to a cleric monastery by his rich parents who were sick of giving him everything he wanted. He was then sent out on an early "mission" because he was sleeping around with half of the women there and harassing the other half. Sometimes, when things don't go his way, he gets extremely mad and frustrated and either rampages or breaks down crying. (Collin) A human monk that is LN and a parkour punching and kicking master. He was an orphan (CLICHE) and sent to a monk monastery and trained in the martial arts. His monastery is close to my characters monastery and knows my character because the frequent integration of their disciples and they were pen pals. (Michael) A ranger of the woods, CN, orphaned at birth (CLICHE), raised by elves, and an expert at archery. Was healed by my character when acting as a mercenary in a skirmish and knocked out on the field. (Clayton) Extremely attractive CN sorcerer who is obsessed with women and getting them into bed. Known by my character because he and his prowess in bed with his whip are a legend among the underground and brothels. As you can see, we are a strange group, but we still had a lot of fun. After character creation, which took a little more than an hour, we ate pizza and took a break. Once we were fed and ready to go, Luke decided to run us through a randomly generated dungeon just to get the newcomers used to the game and to practice all of our not very used Dnd skills. The dungeon actually ended up being a site we would visit later after clearing a small part of it, and a foundation for our characters' experiences together. Some highlight: 1. In the beginning, I cast Light on Clayton's whip, and we ended up whipping it down doorways and hallways, lighting up 35 ft. in front of us. It was creative and funny, and allowed for further inside jokes. I would like to say it made us unsurpriseable, but that is not the case. 2. After throwing a ghoul's body down a passage to get rid of a rolling rock trap, we thought it was safe and continued down the hall. However, we triggered ANOTHER rolling rock trap on our way down, and everyone passed the Reflex save with flying colors but me. I ended up having a mangled leg, but healed it right away. My character then broke down crying out of fright and stress and continually being caught in traps (I had been hit by an acid arrow trap before) and had to make a Fortidtude check to prevent soiling myself. 3. Collin's character rolled 20's on almost every break down door check he made (even stone ones) and got to smash them open with kick's headbutt's, and pelvic thrusts. 4. Clayton's character got Collin's to jump up onto a chandalier just to grab four candles. They ended up having strange writing and a cinnamon scent, but we couldn't figure out what they were. Even though unable to identify them, Claytpn was still completely adamant about keeping them and making sure nobody else touched them. 5. Using turn undead on 5/6 enemies we had to face and not needing to fight almost at all. After we decided the dungeon was too big to explore all at one time, we left to the nearest town (I forget the name.) Upon arrival I announced to the bustling marketplace Clayton's character as the sex god of the elves, and that he will seduce all, men and women, with his glowing whip, 5 pints of oil (for his lantern, but not really) and 4 cinnamon scented candles. We automatically had a name for ourselves, but it was not good. Then we visited and inn called the Golden Talon, and Collin broke down the door instead of opening it. This set the innkeepermanager to yelling. I payed him 10 gp (which is way more then he deserved) to pay for the door, and 2 gp for a rooom for all 4 of us. He then went off on me on how I was snooty and tried to talk and pay my way out of everything. Then he made me pay 4gp for a room, and gave us the honeymoon suite. In the room Clayton lit one of the candles and it started glowing and getting warm, so he quickly put it out. Then he went to seduce the cook, who was the innkeeper's daughter, and whipped her. She yelled for her father, and Clayton was kicked out into the loft. We then went to the nearest magic shop to discover what the candles were. We talked to one of the locals who ended up being an owner of the magic store. However, the store was closed because his apprentice was missing after being sent on an errand by the mayor to get something form the village of Brightforest, a community of magic users that were kicked out of this town. The only one who knew the location of the town was the mayor. We went to go visit her, but needed to set up an appointment for 9 in the morning. Then we went to the monastery of Pelor next door. Clayton ended up whipping a priestess because she wouldn't sleep with him, and had the Guards called on him. He ended up being chased all over town by the Guards and only managed to escape because he convinced the innkeepers daughter, after a lot of apologies, to hide him for the night. After the ruckus caused by Clayton, we slept and ventured off to our meeting with the mayor. She was impatient with us, and first didn't trust us with the information. However, she agreed to blindfold us all and have her secretary bring us there. With my Sense Motive check I could tell she was hiding something. Clayton said that being blindfolded was kinky, and asked to have sex with her, and was about to have the guards called on him when Collin hugged her and apologize for the rudeness. He then noticed (by rolling a 20, of course) that she was a vampire! I asked her if she was a vampire, and she said yes. I then asked her if she was Evil or Neutral. She would not say which, so I assumed she was evil and told her I would send her back to the hell from whence she came. I turned her in one check and killed her, and that is where we ended. After all the battles and killing the vampire mayor, we leveled up. We thought this first session was going to be lame and basic, but now we have a ton of plot hooks and things to do. My party and I are going to run together for mayor, with me as the main mayor (because I'm NG and the nicest) and the other's as co-mayors, but not officially. I am going to tell the public about the secret identity of their mayor and her secret plan to use them to make a vampire colony (may be fudging the truth on that last one there...) Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Our DM said he has a bunch of ideas ruminating in his head for the campaign and I can't wait until the next session! |
