Im currently in a group only using 3.5rules and such and my group started off by all dying, we then awoke as a zombie ghost and skeleton and then our friend that found us being a centaur. We are currently seperated from each other in pairs of two. Also we are allowed to switch our body with something else to rid us of this undead curse. One friend is choosing to stay as a ranger skeleton, the ghost wishes to not take anothers life so he is making a mechanized body that he wishes to be like a monk, the centaur is obviously staying the same as a druid, and i wish to lose my zombie body for a poison dusk lizard. Looking at the team we have enough fighters and little magic, Im thinking that i will cross class between a Socrerer and a rogue. Firstly is this a good idea? So far our team could use more magic and has no one that is sneaky? Secondly this is my first time not being someone that likes to smash stuff so i wouldnt mind some stragegy. I was thinking of using poisons and using my soceror abilitys to enchant my wepons to help bridge the gap of what im lacking physically in fights. I dont want to shun from contact and only use projectiles because its just in my nature to say "oh were on a roof and he just hit me, well lets just tackle him off the roof and see what happens from there, i know i have enough health" but i was only planning on using my magic for minor healing of the group to help me physically so not so much for fighting ya know? Anywho i would like your ideas on this like if im taking the right path or right way about this all cross classing between the rogue and Socrerer.

oh a poison dusk lizard is small, has +2 dex,con -2 cha, +5 on jump, swim, and balance checks,  +5 hide from chamelion skin on when unarmored, can hold its breath 4 x con turns, and has a +1 lvl adjustment

It could work, but I wouldn't recommend it for a first caster.  It's not a bad idea, but such a build can get a bit complicated.

The biggest pitfall to accidentally fall into is that casting is everything to a caster.  The LA and -2 cha already puts you behind in casting straight out the gate, and that's before diluting it further by multiclassing.  Going for buffs instead of direct effects is definitely a smart idea, but the duration and effectiveness of many of your buffs, as well as how soon you can access them, depends on your caster level.

And sorcerers can be a bit difficult to play if you've never tried a caster before.  Compared to wizards, socerers gain new spell levels later and only get a very limited number of them.  And once you picked a spell, you've pretty much stuck with it for, good or ill, for the rest of your character's career.

That's not to scare you away from the idea.  Not at all.  Just keep in mind that your setting yourself up to be secondary in both the caster and melee roles.  So make sure that the options you choose really boost your shtick.

Though I favor the sorcerer class, I think that wizards are a tiny bit more newbie-friendly.  Not only do they gain higher level spells sooner, but you can fill your spellbook with effectively any and all spells of the spell level you can cast, giving you room to experiment and see what works for you and what doesn't.  As an added bonus, your casting stat is Int, which not only means that your Cha penalty doesn't hurt you, but that your bonus Int will give you more skill points to play with as well.

Either way, you'll want to prestige into something like Arcane Trickster ASAP.

As for spell suggestions.  You can sneak attack with rays since they are "weapon-like" spells, which includes the lowly Ray of Frost cantrip.  So definitely want to pick that up.  I don't remember the details, but I remember Minor Creation could be used with Craft (Poison) to do all sorts of poison shenanigans while ignoring gp costs.  Said shenanigans usually involved black lotus poison.  So that's worth a look.  Though neither wizards or sorcerers get access to any decent healing spells.  You might be thinking of the bard.  Though since you're multiclassing Rogue, you could fake it by taking ranks in UMD and getting a wand.

As as for combat, you'll probably be fragile with your focus split between two already fragile classes, so range would probably be a safer bet.  If you do decide to go melee, spells like (Greater) Magic Weapon and feats like Arcane Strike can be a boon depending on your exact build.  And a spell storing weapon can help add some additional spell-hurt on top of your sneak attack and poison.

Alternatively, you could set yourself up solely as buffing and support.  Since your party will be better equipped to hit stuff than you, you could opt poison and enchant their weapons, then slink to the shadows to deliver timely buff, lay down some control spells, or deliver a sneak attack with a ray or crossbow bolt.
