| #2humanmindJun 09, 2010 21:36:03 | Most of the cool things are a bit out of your price range, so I would stick with a ring of protection to increase your low AC. Or perhaps a Hewards Hand Haversack so you can carry a reasonable amount of gear without slowing down. Lacking that, you should invest in some wands and/or scrolls to widen your spell capacity. Good luck with your first game. |
| #3commander_cainJun 09, 2010 22:59:19 | There are all sorts of cool things you can buy. Just pick what you think would fit your character for some of the big items. One thing I will say though is be sure to always carry the little things. Things you don't even think would be imortant but you can always find a use for. Rope, hand mirror, grapling hook, empty flasks, flint and steel, etc... My rule for survial gear and he like is, if you can afford it (my meaning, very cheap) and carry it easy, buy it. |
| #4oxybeJun 10, 2010 18:17:33 | This will be the first game of D&D(3.5)I have ever played,I am playing level 3 Neraph Wu-jin.We are going to start out with 2700 gp,and I was looking for some useful items to use my gold for. -if memory serves, the Wu-Jen is a caster so wands & scrolls of useful spells. -a handy haversack or bag of holding to hold your useful stuff, all stuff not nailed down for selling later and for also carrying vast quantities of coin -everburning torch + mapcase with a hole in the bottom = flashlight. pop the cover on/off to hide/show the light. -10-20 pitons, a small hammer and 200-300 ft of rope and a grappling hook. pitons can serve to jam mechanisms and help open areas. really nice to have around at times (a gm once put a "trap" that involved 3 holes and you had to push the correct button. the wrong button would cost you a finger. hooray for pitons!). rope is just REALLY useful to have around. -a prybar, a shovel, a sledge & a pick. you really miss these when you don't have them. -several sacks for carrying stuff -one sack, around your neck, inside your tunic, that holds a few coins and gems on hand for quick purchase. keep your purse away from your side. -a dagger & club as sidearms. daggers are highly useful to have around, and get a dagger made of adamantine eventually (the adamantine dagger is a fighter's lockpick since it ignores a lot of hardness and is easily concealed). -3 spell component pouches. 2 on you, one in your backpack. one's your primary, one in case it's sundered, the third is "just in case" -a spare spellbook for note-taking and mapmaking (a bound 100-page spellbook is cheaper then 100 sheets of parchment). ink+inkpen should be a given. -chalk of several colors -candles can be used to gauge time if you know the speed the wick burns (one inch an hour, 6 inch candle = 6 hour clock). also, wax can seal things. -a handmirror for various reasons: signals, checking around corners, checking your hair/face for dirt -lots more can be added to this list |
