#2 LordManshoon Jul 28, 2012 18:45:43	I finally found what I thought would be a good group and every time I try to talk to the DM, he disappears for hours at a time. Finally HE pins us down to a time... only to disappear again. He says a few minutes. It stretches to two hours. He comes back and promises 30 minutes. It stretches to an hour and counting. I haven't even met the other people in the group yet because he isn't responding to my messages anymore. It isn't as if I'm spoiled for choice as far as groups to join. If I could just... blow this guy off and join another group, I would, because I just can't take any more disappointment.  What does it take to find a reliable DM who can help a newbie out and not leave me hanging?  Well, it sounds like this DM simply isn't organized enough to handle running a game. Unfortunately, some people have a tendency to overestimate their ability to manage their time well when people are counting on them to deliver. If you keep trying to contact this guy and it's like pulling teeth, then it's pretty obvious that waiting for him to get his act together is going to be a waste of time, especially if he's stopped responding to you altogether. It sucks if you can't find another group, but ultimately, even if you don't know of any other groups nearby, you aren't doing yourself any favors by saddling yourself to a DM who continues to ignore you when you try to get details from him. It sounds like he just couldn't be bothered, to be honest. My advice? Shoot him a line saying you are no longer interested and just resume the search. If you fail to find a group near where you live, just look online for groups. Online games may not have the same thrill as playing beside another person, but they are far more convenient. You could look into forums for virtual table programs, maybe something with Maptools. Alternatively, you could look into play-by-post; try Real Adventures or Play-by-Post Haven on this site.
