| #1Chaoswulf97Feb 22, 2015 16:53:28 | I am still rather new to the game. My character was put into a situation where I was forced to take a blood oath or my character would die (Went with the wrong people). The Oath was made on top of an enchanted coin. I took the Oath and eventually parted ways. From my knowledge checks I found out that the Oath was to the god Set and all I know about him is "mummyrot" in game. He also realizes that mummyrot can be destroyed by Break Enchantment. If I were to break the oath, what are the chances I could live and what can I do to stop the oath from killing or seriously injuring me? |

I hope he has a cool story planned, 'cause "forced" doesn't tend to end well. |
| #3CCSFeb 22, 2015 23:21:39 | That's it? Just "mummy rot"? Before you break the oath I suggest you do the following: Find out what Sets the god of. Is he good/evil/etc? Is he part of a pantheon? If he is, details about the other gods? Details concerning mummy rot. Details upon what exactly your oath entails. This stuff should probably be addressed by sages, clerics/temples, etc. |

| #5ReiusFeb 23, 2015 4:01:59 | I had mummy rot once. Almost killed me because I had such a low Endurance and there was never a healer around when I had to make a check. I was going to start insisting that we don't rest and keep going so that I wouldn't have to fail the last check and die, but we managed to kill the big bad and get back to town before that was necessary. |
| #6Chaoswulf97Feb 23, 2015 5:38:15 | I said from my knowledge checks that's all I knew about he god Set. I do not know if that's all that will happen when I break the oath. Set is a Lawful Evil god. My current plan is to find a non-evil aligned healer to heal me after I break the Oath, but I have to be careful because the town I am at seems to be a front for the evil god. I hope it's just mummy rot -_-. |

| #8Chaoswulf97Feb 24, 2015 12:12:00 | Yea I kinda figured. I took the oath on top of a coin. There was nothing directly required of me and not sure how to break it yet. Have to be careful of what I ask the people in town since it seems to be run by these followers. If they find me asking those types of question, they will most likely have me killed. |
| #9ZathrisFeb 24, 2015 14:44:12 | I don't think your DM understands the concept of "Oath" very well. Oaths begin with "I (state your name) solemnly swear that I will (things that you are bound by the oath to do/not do). (Something about acknowledging that bad things will happen to you if you break the oath)."
If all that's being required of you is to not ask certain questions in a certain town, that's pretty tame. Just have other PCs ask the questions, and avoid using the phrase "Blood Oath to Set", lets call it "Cursed to be unable..." for PR reasons. |

But I'd still press the DM for details about what exactly transpired when you took the oath*, since that's something your character, having been present at the time, would know without any checks.
*Seriously, was it just "Do you swear the blood oath?" "I do" or something? |
| #12TimpookieMar 12, 2015 5:59:30 | Say that you swore the oath under duress. From a legal standpoint, that therefore means that you are no longer obliged to serve out the qualifications of the contract, and the party that forced you to make the blood oath will be arrested and fined, and you can sue them. Of course, you'd need witnesses... |
| #13baldhermitMar 19, 2015 20:36:59 | Why do so many people assume US law applies in whatever universe the party is in ? |
