my party is in a bit of a trickey situation, and we need help. A town that we have been adventuring out of was about to be destroyed by two different armys that were coming from two different directions, due to our medling those two groups that are equall in numbers are about to do battle directly outside the city's defences. presumably the winning army will still try to destroy the city and inslave or kill the townspeople. one of the armies is drow casters and orc fghters the other are all paladins and clerics. I would personally rather defend against the drow in the end than a bunch of ****** off pallies and god peddlers simply due to their inate healing abilities, and the fact that they actually have tribuchets and seige engins (the fact that a god is literally on their side does notbode well either). so my question is this: what tactics can the town use toweakin the devvine caster crew just enough that the battle with the casters and orcs is long difficult and bloody enough to give a leg up on the surviving army?

Hopefully you have at least several days of in-game time for your characters to prepare.

Do you have a rogue, or access to stealth abilites? If so, while the paladins are camping, you can sabotage their war machines. Also, you could get information about them to leak to the drow.

Do you know where the battle is going to take place, and where the respective armies are going to be situated? You could build pit traps and snares, set up spots where trees and boulders crash into the soldiers, and so forth.

During the battle, if you don't mind taking risks, you can take advantage of the chaos to slip in and make organized strikes against the more challenging threats.

Hope that helps. If anything else comes to mind, I'll post again.

we had several days to get ready we did build traps even a mote along two sides using the dirt and a harden spell to create bottle necks on te other two sides so they either have to cross the motes or stumble throegh the bottlenecks it is the night before the battle the enimies are already encamped on either side of a field in front of the town. it is the types of guerilla warfare to wage that night that i am haveing trouble with

You could try assassinating key people in their force. Also, is it an possible option to bribe some of their people?

probably no for the bribing pallies dont go for that and the clerics are all part of a fanatical sect that is technically in charge of the country we are in. here is one idea i just had, my party has a druid that can summon wolves so we set up a line of blast disks fifteen feet apartsend the wolves in(if they are under the direction of the druid theyshould know where the eplosives are) as the enimies pile out of their tents to battle the wolves they are led directly into the line of blast disks, so what do you guys think
