| #1sgathFeb 13, 2009 20:24:32 | My friend and I was finally able to get into a 4e game :D The other 2 players that will be joining us have decided to play the following: Dwarven Fighter- focusing on a great axe, more offense less defense. Halfling Rogue - standard rogue, uses crossbows and daggers. My question is, since there will only be the 4 of us, what 2 classes would help out the group the most? I know healing would be needed, but I am not sure if a cleric, or pally would be better for this group. I appreciate any help or advice you could give us. |

Since you already have 2 melee characters, I think that the Warlord will support these even better than the Cleric in general. You're also gonna need a controller, which is only the Wizard for the moment unfortunately. |

Controllers are probably the least "needed" character role. They should be fine without one. I would recommend, actually, a ranged striker, such as an archery ranger or a warlock. While they don't synergize well with the warlord, there are advantages to having at least one ranged attacker in the party. |

I'd say a 'standard' rogue is melee (standard as in typical from 2e to 3e (TWF rogues with multiple SAs FTW!)). This means a tactical Warlord who can shift and thus set up the rogue would be awesome. A second striker or defender would be nice. A shielding swordmage would be able to do minion control with an at-will as well as muck up enemy formations, as well as increase the survivability of the rest of the party would be good, I think. Edit: Wow, that last sentence there is one long, rambling, run-on sentence. Eh, I'm too lazy to change it. |

He was asking for 2 classes that that would be benefitting for the group, and seeing both leader and controller lacking the logical conclusion was that these two classes would fit the bill, but not being mandatory. In my honest opinion, I haven't seen the need for any role or class. As long as a DM adjust encounters with the group composition in mind, as well as the group having good tactics, anything goes ![]() |
| #6sgathFeb 14, 2009 8:28:38 | Define "standard" rogue. Sorry, I should have been more specific. The rogue is more range-oriented. My friend has decided to play an archery ranger, so that leaves me to pick up any slack. We are currently lvl 3, and the DM will allow me to play any class that is in the Character Builder or has been released through the Dragon "Preview" (Sorc, Druid, Warden, Shaman, and even the Avenger) |
