#1 groundzero0523 Mar 27, 2008 18:32:18	Ok, I may be a complete goober for either missing this, or misinterpreting it, but I need some sort of clarification. What we were using: Monster Manual 3.0, and going off of the damage scale per age category, giving Half-Dragons all different dice for damage depending on what color you chose. What the Monster Manual 3.5 says: "A Half Dragon's breath weapon deals 6d8 points of damage." ... ... As you can see, both views are extremely different. Now, am I -reading that right- in the MM 3.5? 6d8 for -all Half Dragon breath weapons-? And if that -is right-, what about dragons like the Fang Dragon, that does CON-draining damage? Does it do 6d8 worth of CON -per bite-???

And since we have MM 3.5 now, that's what we're going off of...and, again, it says 6d8. It could be a typo, and I'm asking, please, if you've got MM 3.5, go check the Half Dragon template entry as well, to confirm 6d8. And even if 6d8 is right, again, what about a Fang Dragon? And for that matter, a Shadow Dragon? Fang Dragons drain CON with their bites, and Shadow's drain levels, with their original dice being -very much- lowered comparatively. Monster of Faerun was published before MM 3.5, so of course MM 3.5 trumps it, but....6d8 CON damage??? 6d8 Level-drain???
#5 tobias_bluesummers Mar 27, 2008 19:18:44	For all the basic dragons (Ones from the MM 3.5) The breath weapon is 6d8 usable once per day. For any other dragons you need to look in the Dragonomicon. There is a table that describes all of the other half-dragon breath weapons (The fang can do 1d4 con damage with a bite attack 3 times per day.) Edit: Shadow does a cone of shadows that gives 1 negative level.

Am I understanding that right? Pretty much. If you can get your hands on the Draconomicon. It has a table in the Half-Dragon entry that lists out "various true dragons that have appeared in Monsters of Faerun, MM II, Fiend Folio, this book" (That's how it puts it.)

I agree, that random breath weapon is fan-f'n-tastic! *lol* -Just- when you need to vanquish the Great Wyrm Red Dragon, -praying- for the Cone of Cold- *rolls*...Cone of Fire- *grabs hair, wails and cries*

#14 MrCustomer Mar 28, 2008 23:00:14	Well the +8 Str, +2 Con, +2 Int, +2 Cha, +4 AC, alone is enough to warrent a high LA, would be a serious mistake to add these as Free templates.

I realize that is a normal outlook to it, but since it's just him and me(yes, a one-player game technically), we're all the time trying to kill the other's PC's more frequently, so we both agreed that Templates are freebies.

It might suck early on because the benefits aren't quite enough to make up for the lack of class lvs. But once you have a few under your belt, the drawbacks are less crippling. For example, at higher lvs, compare a half dragon fighter17 to a fighter20. The fighter17 half dragon comes out ahead in almost every aspect, just that it has a little less hp and no weapon supremacy. And at epic lvs, the bonuses are worth much more than the epic bab you get.
