Just a real quick question, If I were to make a Half-Dragon and used Half-Giant as the base race, would I have wings or not? I don't have my books on me at the current time, but I know you can be treated as large when it's advantageous to you (wings seem like an advantage), but I can't recall if it only applied to things such as bullrush, weilding weapons, etc...

I have a strong feeling that being Half-Giant does not grant you wings, but i'd appreciate it if someone could provide me with a positive answer. Thanks .

despite calculating many bonuses as a large creature and even being able to apply for some large size requirment feats, a half-giant's powerful build feature still leaves him as a medium creature, unless when you work it out with your DM he/she says you have the thumbs up on it. if not, get yourself races of the dragon to get the dragon wings feat

As I understand the Rules As Written, NO. You are medium and treat a very few things as if you are large. Templates are not on that list.

I thought powerful build made you count as one size larger is it was an advantage to do so.

Regardless, they've said that templates that can grant wings have taken that into account in their LA. It assumes you have the wings, and charges you for them appropriately. We know from the Winged template that wings along is pretty much worth LA +1. IMO, if you don't give him wings, you should reduce the LA of the template by 1.

That line refers only for opposed checks.

Powerful Build: The physical stature of half-giants lets them function in many ways as if they were one size category larger.

Whenever a half-giant is subject to a size modifier or special size modifier for an opposed check (such as during grapple checks, bull rush attempts, and trip attempts), the half-giant is treated as one size larger if doing so is advantageous to him.

I would allow it were I the DM, but by the RAW, you technically do not get wings.

Well, a half-dragon should have half as many wings. The only thing to then decide is which side to put it on, the left or the right. :D

Half-Giants and Goliaths do not get wings from the Half-Dragon template.

Half-Minotaurs and Half-Ogres do, however.

sinfire ftw.

having said that... if you rolled a half-dragon half-giant in my game, i'd have you slain by a half-paladin half-ranger and his posse. favored enemy: dragon. favored enemy: giant. favored enemy: illegitimate children of monsters! stacking!

a quiver full of Arrows of Half-Dragon Half-Giant slaying!
a major artifact: Render of Halfbreeds. special purpose scimitar of You slaying.
major artifact number 2: Weapon of Off Hand! special purpose scimitar of Using in the Other Hand... for Drizz't clones.
