Having trouble with incorporating a key plot point (Armor) of my character into a game.

I’m a little new to these forums.  Been a long time Roleplayer but very new to 4th right now.  We are all running are very first campaign and our DM is just as lost as us sometimes about some things.  It’s been a lot of fun so far with many shenanigans to be laughed at.

Moving on to my real problem.

My character in question has a rather extensive backstory in the campaign.  About 63 pages of 30,000 words to be exact.  (I might of gotten just a little carried away with creating him) I’ll spare going into all the details but the basics are this.  He’s a lv 2 dragonborn paladin right now.  In the backstory he loses his father’s armor.  This by design was some custom ornate high level stuff.  Including a full set of the silver dragon regalia. (see the dragonborn races book if you don’t know what that is)

My question is really when is it feasible to start finding this stuff and at what point should I really be having a full set of the regalia on top of the rest of the armor?  (Keep in mind I do realize this is high lv we tend to do long campaigns when we run them unless RL gets in the way.)

I would also be open to suggestions on what else I could use to help fill out this set.  I know I wanted the silver dragon regalia but I’m at a loss of what to pick out for say  the plate and head slot  and maybe a boot item and such.  Anything else anyone might be able to point me to look at would be very helpful.

Depending how familiar your DM is with the items and how much of the plot is fixed, you probably want to run this by your DM.

Personally, it might not be necessary (nor even good) to try and obtain a full set of armor like Silver Dragon Regalia.
Why? Because it encourages everyone else to find a full set as well.
Although granted, a full set by itself (without the add-on bonuses) is somewhat subpar.
You might want to consider picking and choosing from other equipment, rather than all from the Regalia, but that's your choice.

Another trick that can be done is to find the equipment, but at a -1 or -2 Enhancement "penalty", and possibly without a working Daily / Property until later on. This is gradually increased either through rituals or just by the character growing into the armor (ie levelling up), and you unlock more properties and enhancements as you become more powerful and the armor responds to your increased power.
It can be purely mechanical or involving RP : your char dreams of his father who shares with you about the armor / you find an hitherto unnoticed or unexplored blemish that you restore with your blood or wiping off grime or with a prayer, completing a glyph or symbol of (insert God) / the armor reacts to you as a semi-sentient artifact (a bit extreme).

It all works and is fun, but it should all be run by the DM. Hope this helps.

@Tech-Priest One I do have Skype and I don’t mind hitting you up for some idea's if you want to chat about that. I'll send you a PM with the username tell me what a good time of day is to talk about it.

@Zyraen this has been run by the DM and he's ok with it.  He was a little shocked at the size of my backstory and such when I first showed it to him but we both are having some fun with this idea.  Were a very RP bunch so overpowering gear maybe on one player is not something were against as the DM just tends to enjoy beating on me more with higher level creatures.  He's evil that way

I never thought about just taking -1 or -2 penalties to the armor or having the items but growing into the effects of them.

This does bring me to the question of what else can i put together with the silver dragon set to complete the set.  I have a custom description set up of everything but actual armor, helm, boots and other slot peaces elude me right now.   I know I could just slap stick any level armor around the regalia level onto the set but I was looking for items that would have good synergy with it along with fitting maybe the theme of the character.

I really should probably post the backstory on one of the forums here it’s a rather good read I'm told by a few of my friends though we have nicknamed my character crystal dragon Jesus as my backstory set up a tier progression for 1-30.

Lv 1-10 I wanted to deal with finding the armor and regaining my lost memory
lv 11-20 Is dealing with what I find out about my past and the heritage left to me.
lv 21-30 Is basically the shard of IO epic template but with my own twist with the story added in.

It’s a rather long and complicated backstory but that’s the general bare bones of it right there.

Since your DM seems to like you, here's some stuff.
I'm pretty certain I wouldn't allow it in my own game, but who knows?

Other Items
- Ring : Ring of the Dragonborn Emperor & Ring of Radiant Storm (assuming you use Radiant Damage, not a far shot as a Paladin.)
- Neck : Wyrmtouched Amulet or Torc of Power Preservation : for more DB uses
- Feet : Dragonborn Greaves
- Armor : Righteous Armor. possibly cheesy with Morninglord.
- Shield : Tiamat's Bloody Bulwark. its not a great Shield, but fits the theme.
- Arms : Iron Armbands of Power : almost mandatory for a melee weapon user.
- Gloves : Gauntlets of Blood is a good baseline. at higher levels if you do Cold damage (esp your breath to be in theme), use Gloves of Ice

Weapon of the Dragonborn Conqueror ( renamed Weapon of the Conqueror )
- weapon does the same damage as your Breath and adds bonus damage to your Breath damage rolls
- adapted from Rod of the Dragonborn
- use it for awesome

Notable Feats
- Radiant Breath
- Admixture Breath
- Ancient Soul : ah but you're no Sorcerer...
- Enlarged Dragon Breath or Hurl Breath (probably Enlarged is better for a Paladin)
- Uncanny Dodge (with Righteous Armor)

Anything that lets you reuse Dragons Breath
eg. Salve of Power & Power Jewel (check with DM if Power Jewel works as Dragon Breath has no level)

If you take a PP that has a Breath-like Power, check if bonuses apply.
Morninglord might be good though.

There's some really good stuff listed thank you.  I'm at work right now so I can’t really stop and look it all up just this moment though.  Thank you for being so helpful by the way.

I should mention though I actually gave up the breath weapon for the dragonfear feature presented in the dragon magazine articles.

It fit much better with the theme of the character.  He has 20 to charisma and I've taken talents for intimidation, were still a little shocked that I have a 18 to intimidation at lv 2 right now because of the 2 feats and my background I took.  I tend to Rp it more as a commanding / regal presence more then glaring people down most times though.  It relates all to the story trust me it’s just hard to go into details about everything or I might wind up posting pages trying to explain it all.

He might not give me everything I want or perhaps we will -1 -2 some of the stuff for a good long while depending on what happens.

You actually have no idea how well that shield name fits the backstory actually heh.

Personally so far I’m in love with 4th ed.  Yea it has some aspects of 3.5 I will miss but personally I feel combat and items especially have seen some great improvement in this rendition of D&D.
