Im playing in a 3rd lvl Campaign. I made a 2nd lvl Ranger/ 1st lvl Druid with a Wolf companion. I had just joined the game a day ago. And in the game is a 3rd lvl Fighter, 3rd lvl Cleric, and 3rd lvl Sorcerer. Im only able to make the 3rd lvl character out of the PHB, but am able to use classes from the PHB2 and DM later on. I wasnt happy with the character I made as well was new to making an animal companion and couldnt get the right stats for it. I was hoping some one could enlighten me with a good 3rd lvl character as well as future ideas to make the character better. The only thing I want the character to have is to be able to cast arcane spells either now or into the future(I liked what the Duskblade had). As well as having Exotic Weapon Prof (Bastard Sword). Other than that I can go with what ever sounds good. I dont need a whole character cause of course I can make the character myself, I just need good build on a multiclass character. Also the race for the character is Half-Elf(the breed is from a half-elf(wild elf) and a drow). The only thing that changes is instead of low-light vision is darkvision 60ft and it has both elven and drow blood.

The optimization boards are better for this sort of thing.

You would have been fine as a straight up Druid. That would have been the most powerful. Multicasting with ranger didn't really give you much as you got and would get some of the same stuff.

As a ranger you were the skill based character of the group. With that gone you are left with melee, arcane, and healer.

If you want to be a arcane caster wielding a sword (or as they refer as a gish) the dusk-blade is the easiest.

It will depend on what books you have available.

I would recommend just plain old druid up to level 20.

Multiclassing into ranger or anything else would just make you weaker.

If you want arcane spells, perhaps a beguiler? That gives you trapfinding, which your party needs, and skills. I'd have made a Beguiler/Wizard Ultimate Magus. Balancing two kinds of magic sounds suitable for your concept.

But you might be stepping on the party Sorcerers toes there.

Straight Duskblade with one level of Sand Shaper is always good.

What books have you got?

I am limited to the PHB until later on in the game. Im gonna say once we get to 5th lvl I can use the PHB2 or get a prestige class.

Owww...!

Then I'd recommend Fighter 4/Wizard 2/Abjurant Champion (From Complete Mage) Not broken powerful, but good, survivable and interesting. Pick the fighter feats carefully.

Arcane archer would be nice.
