| #1jimprofitApr 06, 2009 18:34:18 | ![]() So I'm to be in a game where our real life counterparts are spiraled into the D&D world. And we are trying (presumably) to get home. It's a cool concept, and the DM wants us to stress roleplay. So not to optimize. What class should I pick? I don't really see any security officer class. Then again that's actually a small part of my personality.. My "job" is survellience. I patrol, I serve as a deterent. I'm suppose to try and convince people not to steal, vandalize, or fight cause I'm a total badass. (Yeah right) So being a security guard, a good one. Demands charisma and wisdom. A strong presence, and good observation. Moderate dexterity helps too. As you'll need one to pass the firearm exams. But even security guards without it can use more mundane weapons or be unarmed... I like my job. I believe in the beauty and preservation of man's architecture and labor. A mall is more then just a place for people to buy stuff, it's symbolic of the brilliance of people's ambitions, and as a result, we are all prosperous. I unfourtanately, do not have the talent, the willpower, or the genius to be a marketing tycoon. So I will protect what they have built. I will protect the seed of progress, and let it grow into a mighty giant. All the while keeping order, curteousy, and a friendly working enviorment.. It's a fulfilling work. ![]() What I don't like is people. Who diss my job. And treat me like crap. "Mall cop". As if that's suppose to be derogatory. I'm the reason your elevators don't smell like urine, and people aren't taking the shirt off your back. And this is how I'm repayed. As a result, I don't talk to people. If you need directions, there's someone at the front desk, or consult the mall map. And most of the time I just like watching the survellience cameras. And not having to actually be around the disgusting pink fleshbags.. It's fun to throw people out. To alienate them, and make them feel as small as a bug. They'd do the same to me... Hell, they've done it before... My misanthropy and distrust of people in general reaches heights comparible to the most hardcore of racists. The difference being there's no specific ethnic group I target. Merely indiscriminately demeen other people. Especially women. I'm not ashamed of that. If they were nice, I wouldn't do that. But people have to earn my respect, and my friendlyness. I'm not just going to squander it on some ungrateful pig. They're lucky I don't taze them for just looking at me. Technicaly I'm allowed too. As long as I can comeup with some crap as to why I thought them a threat. I could say I saw a weapon. So my outright hatred of hummanity might have something to do with my class type. Infact, I immagine if I was in the D&D world. I'd be laughing like Kira. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C65oaIHsdYM Finally free to kill, abuse, and make people suffer. Without law or people of greater strength to stop me. My hatred unhampered. Because if I'm still physicaly weak, I got spells and crap I can throw around. And there's no cameras, no organized syndicates, it's survival of the fittest. As it should be... ![]() So what's my motivation for working with the mogrels? Well, as much as I'll probably hate atleast a couple of them. And just wait for an oppurtunity to kill them without having to face consequinces. I'm not stupid. I'll need help getting home. And I do want to get home. Not for myself, but for Julz. My girlfriend. The only person in this bleak world that I trust, if only a little as I do have suspicions that she's cheating on me.. But she is my moral compass. Julz is ultimately the only reason I'd never really just flipout and kill everyone Virgina Tech style. Cause Julz makes me happy. And I want to live a long time, with her. My hatred for others is only surpassed by my love for her. So I'm more interested in making a life with her. Get a home, have kids, just grow old together. That'd be nice. Especially if it was somewhere in the woods, with hardly any people... I also worry about her constantly. I worry about her physical and emotional health. Worrying if someone might hurt her, or if she might get in an accident, or whatever. A good example of this is how when that guy shotup those immigrants, I was like "hahaha! Who cares about a bunchof dumb Mexicans?! Not me! It's like shooting dear!" Then like... three hours later... when I actually HEARD it, and didn't read about it. My brain registered it "oh ****! What if Julz had been one of those immigrants?!" (Because she isn't American) And I almost fell out of my chair overcome with fear and greif. Ofcourse it passed when I calmed myself down that Julz was fine, and she wasn't there. But the underlyning fear is still there that it COULD happen... Because people are cruel and heartless... And yet we're suppose to show mercy and understanding to them... my ass! ![]() Despite this depressed sounding outlook. I'm actually fairly comedic. Very highstrong and uppity. Like Dennis Leary or Jim Gaffigan. I do like to make people laugh, I like to laugh too. I'd rather laugh then be mad. It just so happens people's suffering is funny to me LOL! But James, he's into philosophy and crap (loves the idea of Plutocracy) asked me how I viewed life in like, a pargraph. So I said..

| #2sallaApr 06, 2009 18:37:25 | Security guard sounds like a Defender. I'd say a Fighter. |
| #3exposed_wiresApr 06, 2009 18:54:49 | That sounds really cool! A bunch of normal people zapped into a world that clearly matches what they know to be an RPG world. No idea how they got there and no clue how to get back. Sounds like a blast. At that point, I don't even know if you need classes. I mean, so much of what a class is depends on your history. I don't understand how any of you guys could be wizards. What's up with that? |
| #4Kevin_VideoApr 06, 2009 19:07:43 | Cool. This reminds me very much of Dungeons & Dragons the cartoon. I've even got the limited edition boxset that came with the book. What D&D are you playing? 3.5? Are you forced to be human? Maybe something really bad happened to you during the transfer over to the D&D world and you became a different race. Like perhaps a warforged. Here's my suggestion. If it's 4e, go Fighter. You can do whatever with that class. It represents city guards pretty good so it'll work well for you. If it's 3.5, and you're not limited to human, be a LN warforged Fighter/Juggernaut. Those are fun. If you are limited to being a human, go to Crystal Keep and download the base classes pdf (think of getting some Dragon Magazines as well). There, look up the variants. LN is what I immediately think of for your guy because he wants to have a sense of justice, but by his own rules (aka you'd be a vigilante of sorts). If you're not into Lawful, go Chaotic. The variants and classes I suggest are: City Brawler Barbarian variant, Crusader Cleric variant, Fighter, Bodyguard Fighter variant, Marital Monk variant (can cross class with Fighter), Paladin of Freedom (substitute Remove Disease 1/week with Champions of Legacy Paladin ability Haste Self 1/day, and Special Mount with Charging Smite) variant, Knight, and Marshal. That's just base classes though (minus Juggernaut). Any prestige class after that would be up to you. Whatever you feel would work best for you. Hope you find something that works well for you. |
| #5jimprofitApr 06, 2009 19:14:39 | lol, the game is 3.5, and he was kind of vague about races. Suggesting to justify non-humans with RP. Fighter had never occured to me as I have a strength of about 5, I'm not kidding. :P I'd definitely be a ranged oriented fighter, and know a fairly amount of crafting weapons. Infact I got introuble once for teaching a kid how to build a stugun. I was like "the poor kid needs to protect himself!" lawlz... Making biological weapons is easy as hell too. It's just dangerous. Cause stuff can blowup. Especially if you live with your parents and they mess with your stuff. XP |
| #6Kevin_VideoApr 06, 2009 19:50:14 | Human average is 10 in all stats for an adult. If you only had a Str of 5, you'd barely be able to open a car door. :P Somehow I think your DM will give you a certain amount of stat points (at least 60). If you want to be someone that crafts stuff, just take craft, and be an Artificer. But you were the one that said Security Guard, so cross class. If you're human, you can do that easily. As for ranged, any class can do that. Fighters especially. Depending on how charismatic you want to be, a Marshal/Arificer might be the best plan for you. You'll be inspiring everyone, and giving them bonuses. Or be a psionic class. That works too. |
| #7exposed_wiresApr 06, 2009 22:40:15 | lol, the game is 3.5, and he was kind of vague about races. Suggesting to justify non-humans with RP. lol, that makes you sound sooooooo crazy. |
| #8excession_dupApr 07, 2009 6:45:06 | My "job" is survellience. Before you said 3.5 the above text (editing is mine) had me thinking 4e Paladin, Cha based, of Erathis. You can build a decent 4e paladin with cha/wis/dex stats, especially as a Halfling or Drow. You already hate everyone so I'd say Drow, or Halfling if you're short IRL ;) Erathis is 4e reveres architecture, building stuff, working together by following the rules. She's unaligned, or lawful neutral by 3.5 rules, so you don't have to nice about it while working to maintain order. It's a pity this is 3.5. |
| #9kaliban7Apr 07, 2009 6:56:41 | I read your... profile. Reducing your choices to 4E, I'd say you could be a Paladin of Erathis. And with an "unaligned" alignement![]() Erathis is the goddess of laws and civilisation and doesn't care about evil or good. A 4E Ranger could be interesting too, but if refluffed to be a city ranger of sorts. Another possibility would be a rogue, probably of the ruffian kind (martial power), as they are specialists in Intimidation - your best bet if you are searching for a (patroller/city specialist/I'm watching you rascal) kind of character. EDIT: Ninja'd! of course it doesn't help you for a 3.5 game... I'd say, in 3.5, try building something around a rogue. Not a "criminal one" but more something of a "counter rogue". As for alignement... Lawful neutral with strong neutral tendances, I'd suggest. |
| #10ADHadhApr 07, 2009 8:05:36 | You could justify the race change and sudden magic mastery by the warp altering you I think ;) |
| #11arcana_manApr 07, 2009 14:00:35 | Pick the class that you hate the most and cant see yourself playing at all.... then play it... it is a role-play game after all.. get out of your comefort zone and find the good inside somthing you cant see good in... |
| #12crossbladeApr 07, 2009 14:45:59 | Aim for Rage Mage? Maybe a Spellthief. How about a low strength Frenzied Berserker? Those are just going on your... lesser than fondness statements. (Your post is bordering on tl;dr. But I tried several times) |
| #13zaeshirApr 07, 2009 15:10:49 | I was thinking Paladin too...and I was also thinking 4th edition, lol. Ah well...I don't know enough about 3rd edition splat books to help you here ![]() |
| #14iroel_qvasuraApr 07, 2009 18:36:29 | Fascinating, fascinating.. Now, I am not all that familiar with the rules, but as far as I can see, you'd be a sort of rogueish melee guy. Actually, to be honest, I'm getting some Avenging Executioner vibes from you. Yeah, I think that'd fit really good. Now, in D&D terms, I think that your alignment might actually be a Lawful Evil with LN tendencies. Evil in D&D does not, in my opinion, necessarily include striving to hurt people, but rather self-serving, and nearly never, if ever, doing things for others, while expecting no gain. Obviously, even evil persons can have friends and loved ones, whom they care for. Note: I am in no way attempting to insult you. This is only my opinion based on what you have told, and what the DnD alignments are described as. I am rather relativistic when it comes to moral, and find that a concept such as evil cannot logically exist. Hope I didn't offend anyone. |
| #15jimprofitApr 08, 2009 0:43:20 | Take no insult lol. Evil rules. I valiantly defend things that would be considered evil just in contradiction of socio norms. Just some minor examples to keep this PG rated lol "****... a minor inconvience!" "The world would probably be a better place if people could not vote. Especially women." "We need more racism, not less. Hatred is what fuels the soul. Hatred drives us to act on our morals, and to rise above the influence. I'd rather see a man overcome the obstacles of biggotry and become a success then to forever lay doormat in mediocrity because he has nothing to prove." "What value is there to love if we love everyone? Love thy neighbor, love they enemy. No. Don't pretend to love, just do it. And mean it when you do. If you truly think you love everyone then I don't think you know what love is. Love makes no compromises. Love is arrogant, petty, and worrisome. It doesn't "let them go", it binds, it clings, it desperately tries to control in an effort to withhold. Love is great, and that's why we covet it. Meanwhile others are telling me to just "let them go free lalala freedom freedom! lolipops and gumdrops!" THEY WANT ME TO SUFFER! But that's fine... I want them to suffer too... But I will make them suffer with truth, not lies..." "A person who says life is full of grays is essentialy saying I am not wholly good, but please do not treat me, even though you should, that I am wholly evil." "A gun is the only thing you can trust. Your friends laugh behind your back, your dog dies, your girlfriend cheats on you, but your gun is always there. Wanting to take away whatever is hurting or threatening you." Evidently we're exploring taking an edit to the druid class. As I also rant alot about "the natural order". Such as "Why can't humans be more like animals?! What does an animal want?! To be fed, to be loved, and to be left the hell alone. That's what it wants! Anyone of moderate labor can accomplish those goals.. But man desires something more, something intangible, and that's why he suffers.." "I like nature's rules. You look out for those close to you, you're cruel to those who antagonize you, and you don't limit yourself to a location unless you're bearing children. We don't have that sortof freedom. That clarity. We treat our assaliants better then our friends, we let our lovers take our most intimate of secrets and abuse them, we chain ourselves to locations to adhere to unsensible laws. And then people wonder why some go insane and kill. Something was wrong with him? No, for once something went right with him. That's why they intend to release animals from their cages eventually. Or else they might turn. Human beings don't seem to get that equasion. That we all have a mental threshold that's being put to the limit. How much abuse do we take before we just let the beast do the thinking for us?" That, and I rant alot about the virtues of hemp, and wanting to grow tobbacco leaves to make cheap ciggarettes. Also the sortof music I listen too is very mellow grunge. "Hippy music". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYS732zyYfU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN1Eca3C3RI&feature=PlayList&p=A4B0F5C6E1E5F34E&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=1 I also wear alot of shirts that have Satanic symbolism and got a neonazi necklace lol! So the other players think I should be a godless cleric who takes some bonus domains through feats and picks Animal Death Protection (Security guard) Plant "The Satanic Hippy" lawlz! ![]() So I might go with that. That'd be totally sweet to use summon nature's ally, and summon a wolf, then when it's defeated, be like "your fight isn't over yet fido!" then use summon undead to animate a wolf's corpse. XD Then James, like a smartass. "Satanic Hippy? That's not original. Charles Manson did that like fifty years ago. And was getting way more women then Jim" "-____-" Hell, I'm more offended that you were worried about offending me lol! I hope people do get offended. People's comfort zones are not violated nearly enough. It pains me to see a world that cares so much about how people feel, when they don't give a crap about eachother. I could take a crap in someone's yard, and they won't even remember what I look like given a few days. They'll just be like "he was kind of fat, and pale... he looked like one of them guys who hangs out at the gas stations..." What do I care of their feelings?! lol! Especially if morality is relative. All the more reason to desecrate their yard... Fling my poot at them lol. No damage, but make will save DC of become sickened and shaken for ten rounds. XP Maybe fort save too, but I'm pretty healthy so there shouldn't be a need LOL! |
| #16turalisjApr 08, 2009 0:50:09 | lol, the game is 3.5, and he was kind of vague about races. Suggesting to justify non-humans with RP. Psion(seer). Simple as that. |
| #17Elemental_ElfApr 08, 2009 1:54:33 | You should be a Human Thug (essentially a Fighter with Urban tracking and 4 skill points) adding in the simple variant for the fighter. Focus on combat with a Sap or a Sword. Try to get into flanking positions with your allies so you can maximize sneak attack. Your skills should be focus on Intimidation, coercion and bluffing (i.e. inter-personal skills usful in tracking down thieves and protecting the masses). |
