| #1jadecatgreenApr 25, 2009 17:41:04 | Okay I'm going to try to make this as short as possible, I'm a fairly new player and this is my second real campaign with my fiance as my DM. On my first campaign I rolled a male human ranger named Darius for my character but got abandoned by my gaming group when it just started to get interesting. Because my wonderful boyfriend loves me he let me reroll the same character as a legacy character because I wanted to see the character devolp. Now I'm playing the original character's great grandson Darius the Third. He's also a ranger like his great grandfather but is also a crown prince (another long story) with a good deal of land... He decided that he wanted to get out of the kingdom (which has become to uptight and stuffy for his tastes... Hey he's only 22. You know how it is. LOL) and adventure out in the world. Now we are on this island (supposed to be killing monsters) and my character falls in love with a sun elf and knocks her up (being played as a NPC by my fiance). As my character I'm totally scared that her parents are going to hate me. I know elven because we have a good repore with the grey elves of my kingdom but now another member of my party (out of game) tells me "good luck...because sun elves are snots". She's some sort of royalty and I know she's going to outlive me by a long shot and despite the fact that I can give her land and titles and that the elves of my country will willingly accept her I feel that it's important that she still have ties to her own people. I mean what happens when I get old and die and stuff and she doesn't have anybody to talk to? I know I'm getting way into this but I don't know what to do. Help?! P.S. I think I'm turning into a male chovanist too because she keeps on insisting on throwing herself into trouble despite the fact she's carrying my kid. Think it's okay to tie her down someplace? How about a DnD version of duct tape or a magic bubble? Gawd I'm 4 months preggo in real life, now I know how my fiance feels... No wonder he finds all this hilarious. XP |

There are ways around dying young, and none of them are easy. The simplest ways are very very evil, like becoming a Lich or a Vampire. If you get powerful enough to become an Epic character, you can take an epic destiny that will make you long-lived or even immortal. The latter even provides you a very strong roleplaying reason for keeping on adventuring long after most sane people would have settled down. Beyond that... I have no idea what else I can tell you. |

Do the nobility thing, y'know, Noble titles and all that, your character should be as out in the open as possible(at least about his nobility) and tell them straight out that you and this NPC will be having a child. Or find an RP reason for the child to die before birth*. You wont be able to keep it secret for very long in the story either way. *This is something I don't wish on anyone to ever have to live through RL, because it is both emotionally exhausting and mentally challenging to deal with. |
| #5Nai_CalusApr 25, 2009 21:40:52 | I really don't think someone pregnant IRL wants to have a character in-game miscarry, even an NPC. I really, really don't. As for impressing them... Yeah pretty much forget it. You are Not An Elf. You're not even a lowly Moon Elf. You are unworthy, no matter *what* you bring to the table. You might eventually get a grudging acceptance, maybe, but you won't impress them. And your half-elven offspring... Well they aren't going to like him/her much either. Not every Sun Elf in existance has to be a snotty jerk, mind you, but most are usually portrayed as such. :P |
| #6jlaurhughes_dupApr 25, 2009 22:35:51 | Did I say miscarry? I don't believe I did. And I gave it as an option for the RP. You know, options, different ways to take something. Also, read the subtext of my previous post... why do you think I put that * there? |
| #7themocawApr 26, 2009 0:12:34 | You're not going to succeed. You should elope with her and run off to the grey havens where you can make tons of half-elves together and spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder for her angry brothers to ride up the hill while sharpening long swords and longbows. |
| #8Nai_CalusApr 26, 2009 11:29:44 | Generally a child dying before birth involves one of three things: Miscarriage Accidental/intentional trauma to the fetus Abortion Which, while dramatic, again, isn't the sort of thing people are generally going to want to run into during their own RL pregnancy, where they are probably worried about the first two and usually not looking into the third. Whether or not you wish it upon anyone IRL is irrelevant, it's still one of those things that should really generally Be Avoided. Circumstantial Be Avoided, but yeah. Now for some people maybe it would be a stress release to play it out in-game... Or maybe it'd drive fears they have over the edge and they'd freak out IRL. Not something you're gonna know until it happens, better to just avoid it entirely. |
| #9october_darknessApr 26, 2009 12:58:32 | I believe in 2nd edition, it takes an elf nearly two years for conception. Reason being, is because their aging process is different... So you have time. Roleplaying wise, I wouldn't outright tell the Sun Elves you knocked up one of their own. Unless of course, your DM/Fiancee is running things a little differently for you. |
| #10etarnonApr 26, 2009 22:58:00 | I would definitely ask the father for her hand. It's the honorable thing to do, Sun Elves or not. if he says "NO" then ask under what circumstances. If he says "not any", then say "You cannot forbid what the gods have decreed." Wait 9 months / 2 years whatever the pregnancy rules say or suggest. If they make a move to kill the child, declare the patrons of the family evil, and threaten them with death for threatening your innocent child. It may well be that your PC never finds peace, but it will certainly be dramatic. Always take the heroic noble choice. It might mean she lives with them, you send money. It might mean running off with her when she is of age. It might mean saying goodbye, since you are an adventurer, and that doesn't make for a stay at home dad. Good luck for your PC and your real world relationship. ![]() |
