Home Security in 4e game - what else can I do?

I'm still waiting on AV2 for the lair items, but here's the long/short deal:

Our adventuring company has a ship, basically a spelljammer for the sake of shorthand, that we operate out of. Thinking a little long term I'm planning what we can do to the ship to make it as secure, safe, and awesome as possible.

At present here's the list:

A large Leomund's Secret chest, reenforced with Ironwood and sealed with an Arcane Lock stored in a room watched by a permanent Eye of Alarm.

The main deck is watched by a permanent Eye of Alarm spell, and all doors are sealed with Arcane Locks.

A stone slab, 2x2, will be installed near the prow to be the scribing place of a Create Teleportation Circle (to be made permanent by sustaining for a year and a day.)

As available the Eye of Alarm enchantments will be augmented with Eye of Warning and Sentinel Eye spells.

My character has already built a shrine to Melora and Erathis on the ship, which will eventually become the anchor for Succor.

The briefing room is warded at first with Silence for important meetings, and eventually with Forbiddance.

Cost Breakdown for Basic Installation (Heroic)

Rituals Mastered
+ Secret Chest - 360g
+ Ironwood - 360g
+ Silence - 75g
+ Arcane Lock - 150g
+ Eye of Alarm - 100g
Sub = 1,045g

Chest (1)
+ Secret Chest - 140(reagents) + 200(chest)
+ Ironwood - 75g
+ Arcane Lock - 25g
Sub = 440g

Doors (9)
+ Arcane Lock - 25g
Sub = 225g

Sensors (3)
+ Eye of Alarm - 100g
Sub = 300g

Total = 2,010g

What else should be on the list?

Well, I'm not especially familiar with 4e, but find some way to crush intruders with a tower. This is working well for me.

How about you hire some adventurers?

From a game perspective though, as long as you take adequate measures you don't have to be too stressed about it.

If the DM wants to steal your ship, the DM will steal your ship -- and make a quest out of it.

Hmm.

Looks like I'd better start properly parcelling out treasure if you're gonna plan like that. In fact I can see a few fun miniadventures just in procuring the rituals and things. Wish I'd read this topic more than a day before our next session :P

Also, Kouk: as GM I can guarantee there's a good chance, in fact an almost certain chance that at least some of those ideas will come in handy during play, and would be felt were they not present (some are overkill but I'm not going to say which ones. And who knows how things could change?). Moreover they're just a fun in-game way of representing the investment and upgrades the players are making to their ship.

Back to LFK: Have you considered alchemical enhancements? For example, I'd be willing to consider player-constructed traps based on existing alchemical recipes, and Jon's character has the feat.

A couple of guards on board at all times.

Heh, looks like the gig is up! The idea more or less hit me last night, so you've got as much "forewarning" as I do!

I hadn't really considered formal traps, but at the same time I was planning on bringing this up as a catalyst for some brainstorming with the rest of the group, more ways for us to really take ownership of Serendipity's Compass and make it "home" and give some more shape to goals, short term and long term. Ibrihim already has a long term goal, and I think this is shaping up to be a short term goal: mastering as many rituals as he can, perfecting his control of the Arcane.

I'm basically making this up as I write it, but I'm liking it.

Kouk: not so much concerned with the ship being stolen, but it is home, and it does go with us pretty much everywhere. We've already had not-a-few encounters take place right on the deck of the ship, and stowaways are an irritating (if not all that serious) concern. We've been boarded several times, searched twice (including one near-confiscation), and we spend a lot of time rubbing elbows with some pretty unsavory people.

Does your DM allow items from 3.5 to be converted to 4.0?
