out of curiousity (yes i am his DM) how is a medusa character not playable? There isnt stats for it? guess what i can make them. There isnt a back history? Guess he doesnt need one cause its his old character in a new body. It isnt acceptable in civilised parts of the world? Who says he has to show his face.

Has creativity ever crossed your minds or should i just come to the conclusion that with the streamlining of 4.0 all creativity got thrown out the window in lue of simplicity. Im sorry but i AND my players like off the wall specialities to their characters.

We all like off the norm adventures with hooks that allow them to explore whatever route they want to, and we all love the randomness of the players throwing a wrench into things and the DM having cope. Just because the game got easier to play doesnt mean you have to take the mental prowess of a fourth grader. Or are you the type of player that an elven warlock is impossible and will whine and cry for hours on end till things get changed.

As ive said before and ill say again

"Dungeouns and Dragons is a game about the players having fun. Everyone else is along for the ride."

Well my players, all five of them, are having a blast with their characters and i for one am proud to announce that. they dont have to have stremalined canon or races to enjoy the show. And are willing to work and go with everything that is thrown at them along with tossing a few power tools into the mix as well.

Im sorry but all the people that whine and cry Wizards of the Coast killed DnD with 4.0 are wrong. Its the whining and constant complaining by individuals like this that could probably not even roleplay their way out of a paper bag because the most creative they can come up with is the Elven Ranger named Legholass.

Well for starters, I would learn how to use punctuation to make your posts easier to read. People can't help you if they can't read your post. :P

Now... How the heck are you playing a Medusa anyways? Is this a homebrew or are you guys not playing 4th edition?

There are no PC Medusa stats in 4E. Are you playing a previous edition or something? If you're going to make them up yourself, good luck, but do us all a favor and read the sticky at the top of the Homebrew board first. It'll go a long way towards helping you create something that's actually good instead of just something that exists.

As for the rest of your post... I think you need to take a chill pill. :P
He was just saying that Medusa isn't playable in 4E because there aren't any PC stats for them. If you want to homebrew them yourself, then do.

first off this wasnt my post about creating the medusa race. Ive created enough stuff over my DMing career i can handle that fine. What this post was was a player of mine asking for help from his fellow player community on any ideas that might help him PROTRAY his character a little better. The first responce he gets is from a troll tempting to seem intelligent but failing miserably. So yes i do get annoyed by people who instead of going

"hmmm i dont think i can help this guy lets go back and find another thread"

They tempt to make a feeble attempt at a joke and do nothing but waste if not his then all of our time.

I've got a Medusa PC in a homebrew game. She relies a lot on her gaze, venom, and grappling skills, as her snakes are slightly longer than the norm. Honestly, the most fun is in RPing her personality - I chose to play her as essentially a monster, so she's somewhat feral, not the most logical, and terrible at negotiation. The gaze isn't much of a problem, as almost anybody has the option of looking away, and she's responsible with it. The bigger problem is running around in town with a scaly, snake-haired, half-naked creature that has a disturbing tendency to lick people in the face if she likes them.

I apologize for not giving a more in-depth reply.

STATS: As a PC, it does not have any. If you, the group, and the DM can be happy with homebrew stats for a PC Medusa, ok.

STRATEGY: Look in the Monster Manual for strategies in combat. It spells it out quite clearly.

REALIZATION: While your adventuring group might realize that you are really their Shadar-Kai friend, no one else will. You will be seen as a monster. Never in the history of history has a Medusa been accepted as a hero, socialite, or citizen. Medusas will turn people to stone simply by looking at them. For this, people will avoid you like nuclear radiation. Surely you will be the target of many good, heroic adventurers, hoping to rid the land of such a foul monster.

TIPS: It seems pretty clear as to how you should play your character. Cover yourself from head to toe so that no one finds out what you really are (leaving only a small slit for your eyes), and have the rest of the party research how to reverse the effect. I imagine your DM, being as intelligent, fair, and creative as he is, will let you hide your true nature in securely fitted clothing, so as to hide your monstrosity from NPCs. I imagine you won't have to worry about your clothes opening up or getting ripped up in combat. Just don't use your Snake Hair basic attack, or your Petrifying Gaze, and you should be fine. One more thing, don't ever talk to NPCs, as their Perception, Insight, and Nature skill checks will rat you out.

I'm sure your DM feels that you are up to the challenge, so good luck playing one of the most feared monsters of legend.

Well, Eberron has plenty that are upstanding citizens, but that's in that setting, so it wouldn't apply so well to others.

Really? I've never read Eberron. I think I just lost respect for it.

Wait... to be fair, I should read it first.

There is a country that's basically populated by monsters with human-level intelligence who want to actually make a society. In that nations, Medusae exist, and often get work as masons or stonecarvers. Their behavior is very highly regulated, though, and they need to wear blindfolds and "see" through their headsnakes (which provides very limited pseudo-vision). So maybe saying "Plenty" isn't entirely accurate.

Wow. I don't think I can get into that setting.

Different strokes, I guess.

Mind you, you're not likely to actually see that city. Keep in mind that the theme of Eberron isn't Monsters are good," it's "Monsters are not forced into zombie evil by default." If the possibility exists for nonhumanoids to behave somewhat civilly, then they'd probably gather in a remote location and start their own civilization. It's better for species survival than everybody hiding in their own treasure-filled dungeons and waiting for adventurers to gank them. In Eberron, you're forced to look at monsters as more than irredeemable XP machines.

Either way, I like Medusae. Dunno why, I just do - I like their particular flavor in 3E/4E (4E for the updated maedar, definitely), and I like how that character of mine turned out. There are so many RPG options opened up if you play such an inherently dangerous type of creature that go beyond "lol i can stone enemies for xp."

it seems that a medusa like pc is interesting yet you might need to wear a veil,in 1stedition you can play as a monster if you like etc.i don't know all the details though.

Also, keep in mind that you can get away with a lot more if the medusa is willing to be seen as the party's "pet" or "mascot." For some reason, that tends to calm townspeople down a little more.

Another option is to simply make petrification a encounter or daily power, rather than basing it on eye contact.

Obviously it still needs some balance fine-tuning.
