| #2DaBugbearJul 05, 2013 9:45:50 | How do you Add Weapon Proficiency: Mordenkrad as a feat within the Character Builder? A few ways. If you are meaning to take it in general, you scroll down to the Weapon Proficiency table, and select it (or take Dwarven Weapon Proficiency if you are a Dwarf.) If you mean to add it as a House rule (like a free feat) then you go to the feat selection screen, and look in the upper right corner. You'll see an orange button. Hit that, and it will let you add Houserules. Hit the Advanced button, then type in "mordenkrad" to the name field and it should populate the list below with all feats relating to the mordenkrad. Pick Weapon Prof: Mordenkrad, and it is added to your sheet. |
| #3Neutronium_DragonJul 05, 2013 13:29:25 | And since you're new to the boards, you may also be new to the builder and have fallen victim to one of its "features": ALWAYS choose "Custom" followed by "Home Campaign" when making a new character. If you use "New" then you'll be irrevocably limited to the two initial Essentials PHBs for character building options. |
| #4BluePirateCatJul 05, 2013 19:34:14 | I've gone through and recreated the character as a Custom/home campaign character. Mordenkrad being a "Superior Melee Weapon", it requires a specific feat purchuse of Weapon Prof: Mordenkrad to get the +2 proficiency bonus to attack rolls with it. Mordenkrad is NOT listed under the standard choices for some reason (grrr). When I click the (home rules?) orange button upper right and search, I can find it... I can click on it and highlight it... But it WILL NOT add to my character. (GRRRRRR) . As a side note, I do already have Dwarven Weapon Proficiency. Any ideas how to fix this anyone? |
| #5DaBugbearJul 05, 2013 20:17:56 | I've gone through and recreated the character as a Custom/home campaign character. Ah ha! The mystery is solved. If you ALREADY have Dwarven Weapon Proficiency, you are ALREADY proficient in the Mordenkrad, as well as the Craghammer (superior melee weapon), in ADDITION to gaining the +2 to damage with axes and hammers. I think you may also be proficient in Dwarven Waraxe, too.. but I'd have to check on that. So you don't NEED the specific Mordenkrad feat - you got it in a package deal with DWP. edit: Indeed. When you chose Dwarven Weapon Proficiency you gained proficiency in ALL weapons that have EITHER the "hammer" or "axe" tag, as well as a +2 feat bonus to damage with said weapons. |
| #6BluePirateCatJul 05, 2013 21:41:46 | I appreciate the feedback Mr. Bear! Sadly, it doesn't add up correctly in the math on the sheet then... Having just gained 6th level, I get half my level: +3 Strength mod: +5 Dwarven Weapons training: +2 Two-Handed Weapons Expertise: +1 Mordenkrad +1: +1 +12 (which is what shows on my sheet) If I was getting the Proficiency: Mordenkrad : +2 I should be seeing : +14 |
| #7DaBugbearJul 05, 2013 21:54:57 | I appreciate the feedback Mr. Bear! Sadly, it doesn't add up correctly in the math on the sheet then... Hm. Remember the Dwarven Weapon Training feat only adds +2 DAMAGE, not hit, although it allows you to gain the proficiency bonus of all axes and hammers. So... 3 (level) +5 (Strength) +1 (Expertise) +1 (magic weapon) + 2 (weapon proficiency) = +12 Your "to-hit" numbers in Character Builder are accurate. |
| #8BluePirateCatJul 05, 2013 22:24:26 | And that solves the Mystery (of my not reading closely enough)! I was reading +2 to damage and proficency as meaning damage and attck rolls... guh. Next mystery... same character... took feat: Master at Arms : +1/2/3 (by tier) to weapon attack rolls. Minor action: sheathe one weapon and draw one weapon. With this added, my attack rolls all still show +12 on the character sheet. Shouldn't they have bumped up to +13? Or am I missing something else again? (I appreciate the help by the way... just started playing 4e a couple months ago) |
| #9DaBugbearJul 05, 2013 22:57:58 | And that solves the Mystery (of my not reading closely enough)! I was reading +2 to damage and proficency as meaning damage and attck rolls... guh. No problem.. happy to help out. The reason they aren't adding up is because TYPED bonuses do not stack with the same type bonus. Meaning, a +1 feat bonus to hit (Master at Arms) doesn't stack with a +1 feat bonus to hit (Two Handed Weapon Mastery), though you would get the secondary benefits of each feat, should you take it. edit: Takes some careful reading, though. There are feats that do NOT add a "feat bonus", they add "untyped" bonuses. Those stack with each other. Check out the tiefling warlock feat Hellfire Blood, for example. It adds a +1 bonus to hit with attacks using the fire or fear keywords. This would stack with the bonus from Hellish Blast - a feat that allows a warlock to alter his Eldritch Blast to have the Fire keyword, and ALSO adds a +1 hit and damage (again, no type) when he does this. |
| #10Mad_JackJul 06, 2013 10:59:48 | Any bonus that has a type will say "+1 X bonus", where X is the type - feat bonus, power bonus, item bonus, etc... If there's no X between the +1 and the word bonus, then it's an untyped bonus and stacks with everything except another instance of the same thing, such as two castings of the same spell. As stated, not all feats give feat bonuses, not all items give item bonuses, etc.... For example, Light Blade Expertise gives you a "+1 feat bonus" to hit, but an untyped "+1 bonus" to damage with light blades when you have combat advantage. |
