| #1KerrusMar 07, 2009 21:24:54 | It seems my DM likes to make custom items tailored to a given character. So, in a tradition of giving people items, he's given me a particularly... wonkey one. It looks interesting, but I'd like to defer to the more experienced in the community for determining how good it is. Notes: I'm a monk. The item in question is a set of gloves- the DM has ruled that I can use them with all my relevant attacks and whatnot, so there's no issue there. Gloves of Monkly Might (I despise that name, but eh) +10 to HP +1 to all attack rolls with Unarmed Strike +1 to all damage rolls with Unarmed Strike +4 to save D.C. for stunning fist You may make a D.C. 15 Wisdom Check to increase your dodge bonus from the dodge feat by +1 for the remainder of the encounter (I've got no idea on what sort of action this is going to be- my DM is remarkably vague, so I'll have to wait till I see him in person to ask) You may opt, as a free action, to turn on/off the Vicious weapon enchantment, which (when on) is added to your unarmed strike. (Vicious is interesting- sub par, but that can be fixed later. For now it's actually kind of useful) As a full round attack option, you may make an attack with a range of 10 ft that functions identical to your Unarmed Strike. If your BAB grants you more then one attack, you may add your WIS modifer to the damage roll, but may not make more then a single attack. (It's a ki blast. Very short range, but still useful) |
| #2gaaaaahMar 07, 2009 22:22:04 | It looks good to me, but: what level are you? what did the DM price it as? -it has +1 magic item, +1 vicious, double ability focus [stunning fist], dodge+1, +10hp and gives a short range attack |
| #3KerrusMar 07, 2009 22:37:37 | DM didn't price it at all. In fact, I'm still trying to get a straight answer out of him about some of the stuff it does. I'm currently level 7 |
| #4SteelMirrorMar 08, 2009 22:28:35 | Since the DM probably put quite a bit of time into crafting this one, and is vague about specifics on some things, it's possible that it's meant to be an artifact/plot exposition/imprisoned demon-beast or something like that. That's what I would do, anyway. I'd still put it on, if your DM is any good than hilarity is sure to ensue even if he's being sadistic. |
| #5KerrusMar 08, 2009 23:48:51 | Oh, I've already put it on- it's not cursed or anything, but he basically gave all the party specially tailored items. I've checked with him on the details- and aftet an exhaustive argument between me and one of the other players over what "I need to know how many times a round I can use the dodge bonus adding action" means, finally got a solid answer on the abilities. Basically he (the other player) thought I was asking what it did. I told them that I knew what it did, but needed specifics on the mechanics (times per turn for the actions of unspecified type, type of unspecified typed actions, whether the short range attack is a full round to charge, then fired, or a full round to charge and fire, or a full round to charge, then fired multiple times...) Basically my DM was unclear on the wording, and when I asked for clarification, I get mocked my Ranger McDumbarse "It's a fireball" "I know it's a fireball, I want to know what type of action it is" "IT'S A FIREBALL, WHAT PART OF THAT DO YOU NOT GET" "That still doesn't tell me what type of action it is." So on and so forth. We have these arguments frequently, and the DM rarely sees to arbitrate. But I'm getting ahead of myself. The dodge bonus thing is onely one against each enemy, and lasts for as long as that enemy is my dodge target- at which point I have to make a new check if I change my dodge target. As for the vicious enchantment, it turns out that I have to activate it for each attack, rather then activating for the rest of the turn. Bet that'll ensure I don't accidentally forget about it. Anyways, it's very useful, and as I expect to be taking Pain Touch at 9th level. |
