| #1druid_of_failFeb 11, 2010 18:06:47 | I'm a level 7 druid, Neutral Evil, although my DM (Who is my husband, lols.) says that I should just be Neutral.. But that's a different story. Anyway. All of the players are friends of mine and his, and all but one lives with us. We all love messing with Jon (our Dm) and his plans for the group. It drives him nuts, but keeps him on his toes. We're not really an evil campaign, but we aren't exactally good, either. Last session we were given a quest to basically save the world from certain doom. My character, because of his druidness (I'm playing a male =p), he can't just let the world die because that would mean the end of nature and although evil, he is still intune with all that jazz. My friend Beth and I (she plays our Bard) decided we're going to try and lead the group astray from our mission. We don't want to abandon the mission because neither of us want to let the world end...but diversions are always fun. So I'm sitting here trying to think of a way to get our group to follow me against the kings wishes. Here is our player listing. (All the names are OOC) Beth is our Bard, as I stated. I think Beth is Neutral. I am Kimberly, the Druid. Neutral Evil. Jordan is our dwarf Barbarian. Not sure his allignment. James is our Mongrelfolk Cleric, I think he's chaotic Evil. James will be a pain about me trying to convince him, and his save if I try and manipulate him will probably be too high. I have ranks in diplomacy but I'm not very good at speaking in game. Our game is tomorrow night, any ideas would be appreciated! |

Secondly we'd need a bit more information to really suggest anything...at the very least what the world saving quest consists of doing. Thirdly...it's one thing to go off the tracks because it makes sense for your character, but to do so simply to mess with the dm is kinda a dickish thing to do. Generally when I'm a player and intend to "throw a curve ball" so to speak I'll inform the DM first...even if it's a spur of the moment kind of thing I'll try to suggest taking a food/smoke break just to give the dm some time to adjust. Some DM's don't mind this though and actually come to expect it so, I myself fall under that catagory but it helps that I've had more or less the same group for awhile now so it's a bit easier to see how their gears are turning...but I've had/seen a few situations where the PC's more or less went out of their way to throw a wrench in the DM's plan and it wasn't a fun situation for those DM's. |

Well then, I guess the DM should've remembered that the game is as much the players as it is theirs. DMs forget that at their own peril. |

Your character draws power/inspiration/etc from the gods and nature. The party knows this. So take advantage of that. ![]() For ex; let's say that you take last watch while on the trail. You do this so as to pray for your spells after a full rest. This means that you're likely already awake when the rest of the party gets up. While on watch you write a question to the DM. Doesn't matter what question. Matters even less what his answer is. Because all you need is the visual of the note passing back & forth between the DM & you. Don't ever let them see the Q/A. Once the party is up, then you share whatever completely BS "vision"/info you care to with the group. And from there you lead them astray as you please..... This trick also works if on other watches. Now because you have another cleric in the group (whom I'll assume will be up at the same time as you on watch for the sdame reasons) you may want to take this a step further. I suggest adopting some sort of RP mannerisms such as examining the tea leaves, speaking "druidic" to the trees, etc. Do this, along with the note passing, every morning in-game. After awhile, once this behaviour is established, THEN lure them astray. Who's going to argue with the druid that the forest told her ______??? Same goes for the bard. Bardic knowledge - regardless of the roll - is an awesome RP tool. Just have the DM write down what's learned or tell you off aside from the others. Then edit what he's given you as you see fit.... And bards also come equiped with some spells that can really set things up. Ghost sound, various comminication spells, etc. |

| #6beth-the-bardFeb 12, 2010 8:31:54 | So I typed this huge long comment about our session, then went to submit it, and was smacked down in the process by Google Chrome saying that the link had broken. NERDRAGE. >: Anyways. I'm the group Bard with the pimpin Lute and Leadership, so all in all Drood kind of needs me to tow the group along. (Which in game my character is a total ****, so leading the party into certain doom would be like giving a toddler candy. None of the effects are good, but it's funny as hell to watch the aftermath.) With that said I'm aware of my bardic knowledge, I just have to be gently reminded that I am, in fact, the Bard. My Alignment is Chaotic Neutral to attribute to the fact that usually half of the party is drunk, and if we're going to be stupid and raze a village I might as well go along for the ride. A note on our DM: He's not a rule ****. It's also been a few years since he's read the entirety of the books. The point of our current game is to be idiots and have fun with our imminent deaths. |
| #7druid_of_failFeb 12, 2010 8:36:54 | And then I rez us, yes? XD Death for everyone! |
| #8beth-the-bardFeb 12, 2010 8:38:11 | It's not a rez if it's reincarnation. ;3 And I highly doubt you can rez us if you're dead, foo. |
| #9druid_of_failFeb 12, 2010 8:40:47 | Well.. perhaps death for everyone.. except me. And James. I don't actually have a rez spell, it's only last breath and that other one. They are both reincarnate spells anyway. So my idea to lead us off of the path... I don't really have one. My plan is.. Follow me.. or die. =p That won't really work though. More like.. fail. |
| #10beth-the-bardFeb 12, 2010 8:55:36 | /Sigh We are so dead. Or at least I am. xD I should have been a Pally or a Fighter. lol So that I can forget my spells some more. |
| #11druid_of_failFeb 12, 2010 9:06:55 | Win! Remember the spells bard, the spells. Quick, grab onto my tongue! I mean... Anyway.. We shall have victory! And Cake! And Death!.. But mostly cake. THE CAKE IS A LIE. |
| #12chaosturtleFeb 12, 2010 16:37:40 | ...but I've had/seen a few situations where the PC's more or less went out of their way to throw a wrench in the DM's plan and it wasn't a fun situation for those DM's. Yet if the DM did something just to mess with the Pc's simply because he could would probably result in a 3 page thread of how that's a horrible DM and you should leave the group. I've never had my players mess up my campaign simply for the sake of messing up my campaign...I've had them do something unexpected because it ICly makes sense for their characters/they saw something differently then I expected them to/they just simply thought of something clever that I hadn't...and that's all well and good and leads to an excellent game. Really, all this thread seems like is "How can I de-rail the campaign just so whatever the DM wrote/planned isn't viable" Any of the above mentioned stuff happening in game is fine and well...more or less supposed to happen in D&D, but you're planning ahead on how to make things difficult for your DM...just because you can. If you are looking to do that...the simplest way is just insist on doing whatever he clearly wouldn't have planned. Avoid whatever key NPC's you need to work with, and instead work with their rivals...join the BBEG, go to a completely different town and start questing there/trying to overthrow the town to get a force you can use to complete the quest...travel to another plane so you don't have to worry about that one being destroyed, getting help on that other plane...just start questing in that plane, try and pawn off the quest on higher level people. |
| #13strand0Feb 18, 2010 21:58:56 | Just always push THE SECOND BEST PLAN. :-K |
