I tried a local meetup at a game shop, but it didnt go over to well. I checked local listings and webites that have group meet ups, but I can't seem to find anything. My question to you is 'how do you find a new group?' |

There are also various sites that host registries of games and players, though as I don't use any of them I couldn't direct you to them (try google, I suppose?). Other than that, ask around at your LFGS? ETA: This is more directed at the second post, obviously the first poster has already tried most of this. |

| #5valdarJun 09, 2008 21:33:36 | I'm in the same boat. Fortunately all my hard work has paid off, and my game is full and I'm starting a waitlist. The simple answer? Think of all the things you can try to get players, and do them all. Here's my list: --Create a flyer with the tear-off tabs and post it at all of the gaming stores you can reach easily. Here's mine: http://www.worldsedge.org/comics/flyer.jpg Note that I spent some time here- color image (I drew it, but you can steal one from somewhere else- go with a cartoon or a picture with lots of contrast, so people can see what it is at a glance and it will attract the eye); description of the game, specifics about when I want to play and the general location, without being too specific; etc. --Create a post here on the gamer classifieds, then find other gaming sites and post there too. The aforementioned Pen and Paper Games is very good; I also had luck on rpg.net. Enworld, not so much. --You can also go to cons and such and meet people there. --Let any friends you have know you are starting a game (except for friends that YOU don't want to game with), even if they don't play or will think you're weird. You never know. Anyway, good luck! |

It took a few months for players to trickle in and have enough for a game. I kept the card up, and as people dropped out, other players joined in. Keep in mind that while it's not exactly rude, I personally consider it bad form to advertise that you're looking for a DM. Most experienced DMs either already have a group or know how to get one. It's better to gather your group, then select a DM from among yourselves. While DMing well is harder than it looks, everyone has to start somewhere, and you don't need any experience to give it a try, especially if you use a published adventure. |
