He and his companions make an escape and are on the run. The PC is able to scavenge up weapons and armor along with other items for adventuring and survival. He still is missing his Holy Symbol and the region is openly hostile to his faith. How might he recover/ find or mostly likely create a new Holy Symbol? Suggestions? Advice? |

You'll be losing the enhancement bonus, though, which can stink quite a bit. The other good news is, a holy symbol is a holy symbol is a holy symbol in 90% of cases, so if you find a magical one somewhere, you can pick it up and use it just fine. There are a handful of magic symbols that require specific dieties, but it's a distinct minority. |

Again, though, that's a story answer, as Salla covered the rules answer. |

| #7FireclaveJun 12, 2012 11:59:12 | So you'd say that after building a Holy Symbol no need for a ritual to bless the device? Basically, no. There is nothing special you have to do to a Holy Symbol to make it function. And as Salla said, you do not actually need a holy symbol to use your implement powers in the first place. So carrying a mundane, non-magical holy symbol will provide you little benefit aside from flavor*. Magic holy symbols, however, will enhance your implement-based powers. And to make magic holy symbols, as well as any other magic item, you need the Ritual Caster feat and master the Enchant Magic Item ritual. Fortunately for you, clerics gain Ritual Caster as a class feature. You can also simply buy or find a new holy symbol. It doesn't even need to be a holy symbol of your deity. In fact, it could even be a holy symbol of an opposed deity. Just being the right type of implement is enough to use it with your powers. [sblock *]There are a few exceptions. Some abilities and feats specifically require the use of an implement to gain the benefits, such as the wizard's Arcane Implement Mastery feature or the Holy Symbol Expertise feat. In these cases, even a mundane, non-magical implements can still be useful.[/sblock] |

| #12sallaJun 15, 2012 21:18:50 | Kinda sounds like a **** GM to be honest, unless there is already a good story reason. Well, captured by a hostile force usually results in being disarmed. |
| #13Pyrate_JibJun 21, 2012 9:24:37 | Once captured it would have not made any sense for a Cleric to retain his holy symbol. Two major campaign reasons. 1) the party is adventuring in a hostile enemy nation. 2) the Cleric worships a deity not favored in the enemy nation and is considered a heretic. Good story. Good reason. |
