Feb 24, 2009 23:26:49 I am still relativally new to dnd and I'm trying to find the right prestige class or paragon path for one of my characters. He is a lawful-good dragonborn that specializes in spears. The concept I have behind him is a dragoon like from final fantasy. Is there any classes like this that specializes in spears, preferably involved in some way with dragons and what book can I read about it in?

Feb 24, 2009 23:32:36 While not specializing in spears, specifically, the Fighter can pick out powers that compliment his spear-use quite handily, usually involving Push effects. The ability to mark with reach and to be a second-line defender is very handy if you have the right party make-up.

The Polearm Master paragon path in Martial Power further enhances a Fighter's effectiveness with a reach weapon, granting him the ability to (effectively) make Combat Challenge attacks at reach, and activate a Stance which grants him Threatening Reach.

Feb 24, 2009 23:33:13 Iron Vanguard would be a good choice, combined with draconic arrogance and the spear's pushing effects, it make for a pretty powerful build. It's in the PH

Feb 25, 2009 0:42:53 Well your class is very important here, but for many Paragon Paths you can multiclass to get that prerequisite.

I would suggest you look at the Draevan Marauder from Dragon 365. You can download it free here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drtoc/365

Download the compiled issue just in case anything changed from the individual article.

They are very mobile spear users, and while it's not jumping up and coming down the next round, they can shift several squares before or after attacking.

Feb 25, 2009 4:02:58 I agree with the fighter/polearm master if you then toss in a little multiclassing into either Barbarian or Rogue for the great leap level 2 utility exploit that allows you to make standing jumps as though you had a running start if you want the jumping aspect of the Dragoon.
