so my DM is new to me only had 2 sessions but we get along and i am never one to debate his choices. However doing a mystic theurge against all advice because fits my character to a tee. That being said i've fiddled with getting concept down so far i have decided going to be a sorcerer styled class that is both divine and arcane classes cast like a sorcerer. So! i came accross feat on net, and seemed to fit a theurge well thematically but DM is worried that might be abit unbalancing so! thought i'd post here get other DM's and Players thoughts on feat so he could read this and feel Reassured.

Hybrid Mage [General]
You are able to cast arcane spells as divine spells and vice versa.

Prerequisite: Must be able to cast arcane spells without preparation. Must be able to cast divine spells without preparation.

Benefit: You are able to cast one of your arcane spellcasting class' spells known as a divine spell using your divine spellcasting class' spell slot. The inverse also applies, to where you can cast one of your divine spellcasting class' spells known as an arcane spell using your arcane spellcasting class' spell slot.

Now is another feat from a dragon magazine that does same thing but lets prepare a spell from one class into other classes spell slot at a -1 caster level for that spell, and i agree'd this should probably be in this feat since obviously a version of that same feat. So curious if people think ability to cast spells accross classes is overpowered or if this feat is balanced considering loss of levels and caster levesl a theurge faces.

I don't think it's overpowered. As a myffic theurge, your main strength is staying power - you've got enough spell slots to last for ages. Chances are that when you need a spell, you'll still have slots for it anyway.

That being said i've fiddled with getting concept down so far i have decided going to be a sorcerer styled class that is both divine and arcane classes cast like a sorcerer.

Have you looked at the Favored Soul from complete divine? It's a spontaneous divine caster with some melee capability thrown in for good measure.

i took shugenja because character is a kobold so, his physical stats are pretty low so sticking with a real caster build but not question just trying to get others opinons on how they see this feat so that my DM can feel reassured that the feat won't hurt him much, main reason i want it is so i can cast heals from ethier tree and because always have lower level heals lets me cast alot of lower level heals to make up for it.

It doesn't look unreasonable, I'd probably allow it.

The spontaneous casting divine casters are Favored Soul and Spirit Shaman ... I don't have Complete Div in front of me, but I don't think it's spontaneous (all I can recall is that it is weird with schools, elements and the like).

If you had Spontaneous Healer or similar feat on a cleric I'd allow it, but I'd allow the spell replacement only with the spontaneous spells, not with those that are prepared.

Shugenja is a spontaneous caster. It's also better for his plan because it's completely charisma based. Favored souls use charisma for extra spells but Wisdom for DC.

Essentially yea thats why i did it, lets me be a charisma based caster and because i'm playing a kobold low physical stats so lets me sit in back and be support, but yes both spontanious casters.

There is no problem in such feat.

Being a Spontaneous Caster makes you get higher level spells more slowly.
A multiclassed one is just...OUCH!
Goodbye powerful spells.

I've tried once and at level 6 i could cast only first level spells.
This is the thing: less powerful spells but lots of them!
Always, you shall have spells that aren't that much good for your level.
(in my particular experience, i found having haste, and fly instead of a lot of magic missiles and cure light wounds would benefit my party a lot more, so let MT aside and did a straight Wizard)

This feat doesn't change much the way your character will work.
Just add a bit more of flexibility:if you need ANOTHER particular spell again
(like cure ones)

So, this is not overpowered, cannot break the game.
