| #1DressyJun 10, 2009 5:46:44 | I'm using the CB to make the above class up (just playing around with it), so i have a question in regards to sneak attack dice and hunters quarry dice. The CB only has the hunters quarry dice coming up for damage. So the question is, do I have both sneak attack and hunters quarry dice available to use for the above class? OR can I only use one? If so, which one am I allowed to use? Hunters quarry is only 1d6 while sneak attack is 2d6, so I would rather use the sneak attack of course but both would be nice, though probably a little over powered. |
| #2AtuaJun 10, 2009 6:32:16 | You can only use Hunters quarry with ranger powers and, you can only use Sneak attack with rogue powers. |

Ranger weapon in one hand, dagger or other light blade in the other. Quarry on the Ranger weapon, Sneak Attack on the rogue weapon. |

| #5LespJun 10, 2009 14:50:14 | Or people could read either Atua's post or the hybrid rules. It's not a matter of what weapon you're using. It's a matter of what power you're using. And if you're using Twin Strike, no sneak attack for you. |
| #6IstaranJun 10, 2009 17:42:33 | As a Ranger|Rogue hybrid you only get quarry on ranger powers and sneak attack on rogue powers. This means you get neither on basic attack (including your pet's basic attack). To abuse the combination properly you will want to focus on minor action attack powers (I know 2 weapon rangers get a lot of these, and they are available to a beast master as long as you are using 2 weapons or a double weapon). That way you can get Sneak Attack on your standard action and Quarry on your minor action attack, as each has a seperate 1/rd limit. Note that this tends to play against using Twin Strike. Also note if you miss your striker damage, OAs and warlords and such cannot give it back to you. (At least not without HBO and such.) It's a potent combo but not strictly better than either Rogue or Ranger IMO. |
| #7DressyJun 10, 2009 18:47:07 | Sorry, I probably didn't write the question very well. I knew that I could only use both attacks for their respective powers. My issue was that the CB wasnt showing up sneak attack damage. But now that I know I can use it, I'm happy. Just for the record though I intend using a crossbow ![]() |

I didn't mean to sound like I was going after you; I was going after people making suggestions based on rules misunderstandings. Crossbow is a great weapon for your hybrid, but yeah, you'll only get quarry/SA damage on powers from the matching class. It's still a sweet setup. (Assuming you take distant advantage, your beast helps get both quarry and SA!) |
| #9BluemanarcJun 10, 2009 20:29:55 | A Rogue who has picked up the Multi-Class Ranger Feat can just use a minor action to designate quarry and add his quarry damage, and use Sneak Attack as well - where does it say you need 2 weapons. Also a Half Elf who picks up ane xtra at-will like Twin Strike, and use SA with this "Ranger" power, it doesnt say anywhere you are restricted to using a Rogue power to apply SA. You just need CA and a specific weapon. |

I have read the Hybrid rules but it seems many people who have been making suggestions in this thread are confused between the hybrid class rules and taking Sneak of Shadows (if you are a ranger). |
| #12ashmanonarJun 11, 2009 10:54:44 | Hmm, I need to reread the hybrid rules. I think what's confusing me is that my players for my game all have a class template applied, to make up for lack of players. And a class template, unless I miss my mark, has no such restrictions. |
| #13IstaranJun 11, 2009 13:12:50 | This is different than mutliclassing if a ranger character takes Sneak of Shadows, no? Yes. A Ranger/Rogue or Rogue/Ranger built with multiclass can use both quarry and sneak attack on any attack power they possess as long as they meet the specific restrictions of those features (including the 1/enc limits expressed in the feats; be aware Ranger multiclass was nerfed in errata). The Ranger powers only/Rogue powers only thing is a specific limit on hybrid characters. Basically hybrid characters with bonus effects on attacks are restricted to only use them on powers from that class so you don't stack Sneak Attack + Quarry or Sneak Attack + Combat Challenge etc. Other key class features are scaled back in various ways such as healing powers are 1/enc instead of 2-3/enc, warden mark is 1 creature per use instead of all adjacent, divine challenge uses an interrupt to deal damage (so you can't stack it with combat challenge too abusively), etc, etc. They wanted to make hybrid of role + same role not blatantly outshine pure classes, and they wanted to avoid abusive stacking of class features. The idea is for hybrid characters to either shift styles round to round or possibly muddle through two roles at once, not be just as good as two characters combined. A Rogue|Ranger hybrid is already in pretty good shape, especially ranged style like you are apparantly going for, as you can basically use quarry when CA is unavailable and SA when CA is available. A Rogue who has picked up the Multi-Class Ranger Feat can just use a minor action to designate quarry and add his quarry damage, and use Sneak Attack as well - where does it say you need 2 weapons. 2 weapons are needed to use the ranger powers that give an off-hand attack as a minor action, because the powers say: "Requirement: you must be wielding two melee weapons." They are a good possiblity for a melee ranger|rogue hybrid to get sneak attack and quarry in the same round. However, despite being a beastmaster (which is intended by the devs to be a melee style, but can easily be used as a class feature to support an archer style) the OP is apparantly going ranged style. |
| #14famousfoxkingJun 11, 2009 14:03:35 | Hmm, I need to reread the hybrid rules. Well, sure, that's because class templates are for monsters, not for player characters. There aren't any restrictions for how a player uses a class template because they aren't supposed to be doing it. |
| #15bronski113Jun 14, 2009 8:48:04 | Basically you have both available to you but only on the powers of they class they belong to. Ranger powers - you get hunter's quarry damage. Rogue powers - you get sneak attack. I usually play ranged so the way I view it rangers are more of a straight forward ranged soldier. The rogue on the other hand is more a sniper/assassin. With the hybrid of them you get both. You could also take the sneak of shadows feat and be able to apply sneak attack once per encounter and apply it with your hunter's quarry damage. |
