I recently rolled a N-G Cleric of Pelor named Hector for a campaign a friend of mine is DMing. Although i can't seem to think up any interesting way to role play the character... any ideas would be very helpful. also any backstories would be great too

Role play the character as if you think Pelor talks to you directly, kinda like the Irish man (Steven) from Braveheart.

Ah. sounds fun.
OK. after a quick read of Pelor here are some suggested traits and character mannerisms.

Elements to remember. Sun / Summer & Time
1. Worshipers of the sun often make a ritual of greeting the morning sun. Wake up early and make an attempt to have the first light of the sun fall upon you while reciting a prayer. The First rays of the summer sun are vital to a worshiper of Pelor so when the equinox happens you simply will be there.

2. You might be a bit obsessed with time. You have a wrist sundial. Notched candles aplenty and can tell the time of day in strong sunlight. you tell the time by asking the DM at least three times per session what time of day it appears to be.

3. You might know the weight of things in bushels of corn and potatoes. You know the best time of year to plant just about anything.

4. Spoken manners should be important. It's always "Light bless you", "Light this, Light that.."
just have fun with your character. that's the best advice.
If you want to create a character history or background it's usually best to get some feedback from your DM about his campaign. Find out the limits before you have to argue over them later and it'll all go smoother.

The last sun god-worshiping character I had the, um, pleasure of playing with decided the most appropriate way of getting his daily powers was an hour of naked sunbathing. Of course, his character neglected to tell ours about the "one hour" part, and consequently spent much of our travel time in the buff.

My suggestion is to separate Hector from yourself and ask him questions. Is Hector fiery and passionate about his beliefs, or a more subdued, lead-by-example type? Does he have any distinguishing marks? If so, where'd he get them? What's his favorite food? Does he have a family? Friends? Enemies? Does he treat those that he ministers to with gentle kindness, or "tough love?" What's his preferred weapon in combat? Why? You can find character questionnaires all over the internet that can help you flesh out a personality.

I normally go to "Central Casting Heroes of Legend" for backgrounds. It's available for download:

But if you just want somethijng to get the creative juices flowing, here's a quickie from the Character Development forum:

Created an NPC 1st level Paladin to a farming god. Kaiya (half elf-thus second class citizen) was kept in a Cage that was suspended from the tavern ceiling and served the villagers as a detect evil alarm.

Conceivably if you have the 16cp per day to pay in wages your cleric of Pelor could have four Peasant Servants to carry him/her everywhere in a Palanquin (Travel Box). The church is elitist, why shouldnt the Priests be use to a certain lifestyle?
