Ideas needed: Starting a genocide

So, to give some contex, my character was the youngest daughter of a feudal lord, her clan supressed and dominated the populace, regarding them as lesser beings worth little more than cattle, merely tools to be used as they pleased. As such, she came to be raised with the view of them being inferiour and blessed by having their clan as rulers, though the local populace didnt exactly share that view and when a rival lord attacked their lands during a time of weakness, the local populace rose up and rebelled. This eventually led to their clan castle being set aflame and the clan itself (to her knowledge) exterminated.

So, as you might imagine, she is a bit, uhm, pissed? And her main goal is to get revenge on the rival clan, but she also views the populace as traitors that not only did nothing to defend her family, but aided in their destruction and so she wants to see them, all of them, dead.

Im starting to reach the point where my character is getting enough personal power to think about hunting down and killing the rival family, but im a bit in doubt about what the best way would be to cause the extermination of everyone else. Any ideas on how one could go about mass murder on a grand scale, and of course, how to do it in a way that you still get away with it ;) ?
(as my group is mostly made up of do-gooders who only had easy lives and thus does not understand the first thing about suffering or revenge.)

The first goal should be getting away with it.  As such, you need to be able to do it under your own power, preferably without the other PCs knowing about it.

First though it infectious undead.  The commoners are unlikely to have many high-level defenders.  If you can set loose some undead critter that turns its victims into copies of itself on them, it'll just be a matter of time after that.  Bonus points if you can convince the party to go through and clear out the resulting terrible threat afterwards.  Another option is to find someone appropriately mercenary and have them do it.  Really, you'll probably have to work it out so that someone else does the killing for you.  There are just too many commoners for you to do it yourself, short of epic-level abilities - both because some will escape and because your own involvement will become obvious.

Have you talked with the DM about your plans?  You may or may not want to tell the other players about it (such things can make for delightful post-game reveals) but you should at least have discussed it with your DM.

The GM got my background and goals at the start of the campaign, so he knows. And yeah, i fully expect it to lead to the climax between my character and at least one other in the party who has complete faith in my good will and that my goal is "merely" to get stronger. Will probably try to get him on board, and if he refuses, i will have to kill him :S

I hadnt thought about the undead self-sustaining-solution, i just so happen to work together with a BBEG necromancer at the moment in order to close in for the kill, so maybe he can convinced to move his "operations" to that area ^^

Keep ideas coming if any mass murderers or mass manipulators among you, since i am neither in experience

I would say don't try to get him on board initially.  Sure, if he catches you, *then* you try to turn him to your side, but see if you can do it without his noticing first.

Ways to commit genocide...

- Do it yourself, the old-fashioned way.  This is impractical for a number of reasons.
- Massively overpowered spells.  If you are in 3.x, and epic-level, there are ways to create spells that will basically wipe out everyone in a given (large) area from a safe distance.
- infectious undead - as above
- Hordes of minions - if you can somehow get the loyalty/obedience of large numbers of minions, you can order them to do the slaughtering for you.
- Influencing hordes - if there is a horde (of orcs, say) of sufficient size and threat-level who habitually does the genocide thing anyway, you may well be able to convince them to do their genocide thing over *here* rather than over *there*.  Alternately, it may be possible to dupe any of a wide variety of semi-good groups into thinking that these particular humans need to be wiped out.
- Disease - if you can hit them with a virulent, spreading disease, that can kill a fair numebr of them.  If you can then get the neighboring nations to quarantine violently rather than send aid, that can help as well
- Poison - a lot less trivial at anythign past the "small city" size, but it is sometimes possible to kill large numebrs by poisoning the wells
- Starvation - combos well with disease, particularly if you can get the quarantines set up.  Basically requires that you aim for a year when neighboring countries will also be a bit on the hungry side, and willing to use force to discourage refugees.  (We begin to note here the value of influencing the country's neighbors to hate it.  Do that well enough and you may actually be able to sell some of your "harm these people" plans to your fellow party members as quests on behalf of the neighboring nations.  This can be a risky gambit, though, as it makes it that much more likley that htey'll clue in to what you're doing if they realize that the "quest" is less than noble.)  Start by sabotaging the economic underpinnings of the nation - things like iron mines and so forth that would provide them with money that they could use to buy food.  Follow that up with something that cuts into their ability to generate food - blight or trampling armies or sinking th fishing fleet or whatever.  People starve, society breaks down, their resistance to disease tanks, and so forth.
- War - again, based heavily on your ability to get the neighboring countries (and peoples) to hate your targets.  Technique basically as follows:
-- Convince neighboring countries that the rival clan is generally dislikable, and that the people are hateful.  Run some propaganda in the neighborign countries to convince them (particularly their military) that the people of the country are slime.
-- Convince your fellow PCs that the rival clan is, in fact, evil, and that they shoudl help you in your vendetta.
-- Let the neighboring lords know that you're goign to wipe out the rival clan, that you'll leave things wide open for them to make territorial gains, and that what you want in return is for them to wipe out the (rebellious and otherwise undesirable) peasantry as they go.
-- Head in with your party.  Kill off the leadership, and take the top off the local military
-- Send the neighbors the high sign.
At this point, what army there is left will likely be breaking into would-be bandit kings, and the neighbors will be able to roll right over them.  Anything edible will be looted out of the fields by the armies, and a fair numebr of the locals will be slaughtered directly.  Surviving locals will likely be holed up in cities under seige - where you can target them all the more effectively.

Fantastic ideas!

Think ill try to go with using the neighbooring lords, sadly recent events made my position a lot more complicated as one of my party members caused me to lose my 10dragons+10 liches regiment by accident (yes, by accident!) and the long term implications became that pretty much every former option is out to kill me. Though, offering up an entire country for free could win me some favour back, hmm....

Will report back on how it went, for now i got a chessboard to set up *grins*

Start a civil war. A string of assassinations and sabotages of key noble houses could turn them against each other, were they staged in a way to make them think these events were ordered by their rivals. Do it enough and it could throw the nation into disarray.

Lawful Evil much?

Do to them what your own government has done to you. Take away their speech. Take away their arms. No real need to kill them at this point, use them to wage war all across the planet.

I'd go with the age old D&D plan for dominating entire nations.

1. Become high level. 2. Buy mask. 3. Use your ridiculous wealth to buy an army. 4. Put on mask & use said army to murder entire populace. 5. Continue to use said army to recruit more followers and conquer all who oppose you.

Can you do schitzophrenia?  If so, create Personality 2 and have it found a mercenary company.  When you have a strong-enough unit, allow Personality 1 to contract the mercs to occupy and exploit the land.  Put your Executive Officer in charge of tactical arrangements.  Personality 1 then plans to re-establish the family dynasty.

It would help if we knew what class and level your character is.  After all, Wizards can create and cast a Ritual of Acid Rain during thunderstorms, to pick off outlying farmsteads.  Fighters, on the other hand, usually use a sword/axe/hammer for that sort of thing.  An Invoker might be able to make it look like The Wrath of the Gods is upon the area in question.

Are you really serious about genocide? Read Winston Churchill's The Second World War (all 5 volumes) and William Shirer's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.  Remember that the Nazis hated EVERYBODY.

You might also want to think about paying a Vampire to move to the area in question.  Then, while he is busy setting up shop, tell your friends that you have discovered a serious threat and they need to prepare to fight it.  Don't let them cut loose too early, though...

Not to nit pick, but schitzophrenia != multiple personality disorder.
