If you could only play as one race/class combination for the rest of your life, what would it be?

I could play as a Dragonborn Fighter until the day I die

Half-Elf Bard; so I never feel like it's the same class.

Sometimes it feels like I'm already doing that. My Race/Class combo is Human DM.

Seriously though, I'd probably be a Human Rogue, as long as it doesn't apply to other game systems.

Hard to say since the one character I played the most is a Human Cleric. I do think anything that can take Action Surge (Human or Half-Elf) would be a good choice and any Leader class would satisfy me. Not sure which one though.

Eladrin Fighter/Wizard. My first character I ever played was an Elf Fighter/Magic-User in AD&D 1E. I've had an affinity for this type of character ever since.

Elven Cleric. Played one in 3.5 for years and it was awesome. Started playing one in 4e and its even better...

Human Warlock.

Human for the variety. The extra feat, extra skill, and ability to choose your stat bonus makes it easier to play a wider variety of character concepts.

The three pacts have very different feels, and you can choose between two different attack stats. Devilocks blast and self-buff with temporary hitpoints. Feylocks beguile, befuddle, and teleport all over the place. Starlocks drive their enemies to madness, and get homing lasers. Not only that, but new books have already started adding new pacts! Warlock is already an intreguing class, and I think it would take a very long time for it to become old.

Also, the Warlock is thematically close to one of my favorite 3.5e classes; the Binder, from the Pact Magic section of Tome Of Magic. I'm still holding out hope for Binders to reappear in 4e, at the very least in the form of a Vestige pact for Warlocks.

Play? The same race/class combo I have loved since 1e: Dwarf fighter.

Be? Human cleric.

I wouldn't play at that point. Or rather, I'd play a different game. The breadth of options is the big advantage D&D has (for me). I like seeing all the options, picking some and seeing how they work. I also like playing a variety of character types. I come up with more characters than I'll ever get to play, and have trouble sticking to the same character for an entire campaign. Being tied to one race and/or class would remove the mojirty of the fun I have with the game.

Changeling Wizard. Ideally, I'd like to take the cleric multiclass feat, but it's certainly not an essential requirement. I like the Divine Oracle in terms of flavour just as much as in terms of suitability for my preferred style of build.

Depends, am I limited to playing only 4e for the rest of my life?

Because if I am then I'll choose not to play at all.

Eladrin Swordmage. I normally play a wide variety of things, but this is the one at the top of the list. For other editions we can call it an Elven Fighter/mage or Fighter/wizard, and sometimes invert that last one.

I'd play a bard. Limited to a single class? Yeah, right. Plus, being a leader is up my alley. I enjoy preparing the tactics of the team.

Depends, am I limited to playing only 4e for the rest of my life?

I was under the impression that we had a mix going. Some people are definitely picking 3.X classes, and some are definitely picking 4th Edition classes.

And some of us (read: me) are picking things that span multiple editions.

I mean, no matter what edition pops up, I'm sure I'll end up playing Human Fighter (or whatever they call guy-who-hits-people-with-a-sword) at some point.

I'd be a Human Fighter multiclassed into Paladin. In 3.5, I played a Warmage, instead, and really enjoyed it. Maybe if they released another Evocation-specialist based on Charisma, I'd play THAT, but Fighter's really something I've enjoyed since 2AD&D.

4e - Eladrin Warlord/Umbriri/Mythic Sovereign - multiclass feats into Swordmage, pickup stealth and some stealth related feats.

3e - Half-Elf Druid.

2e: Moon Elf Swashbuckler dual wielding rapiers. That was fun.

3e: Hmm. Human Crusader. Or (and I never played this but always wanted to) an Elan Telepath/Thrallherd/Unbodied. I always wanted to be a floating ball o' energy with my own devoted throng of followers. :D

4e: Tiefling Warlord. At least if I can look like I made that character look. Spikey bone-plated jaws are not hawt. If I can't, maybe an Eladrin Staffizzie. He's fun, too.

Shadowrun: Human First Nation Street Sam.

Battletech: Cauldron-Born Clan Omni-mech. Ok, that'd be the 'mech I drove and not me, but you get the idea.

Human Wild Mage. Still haven't gotten to play him. I just love unpredictability.

Alternatively, Tiefling Warlock. I played a Human Warlock in Neverwinter Nights 2 my first run. Then I met Mephasm. Now I can't help but play mysterious semi-evil blue devil relatives.

I haven't played enough 4e yet to know.

On the other hand, I've played/GMed HackMaster (which is a tribute to/parody of old school D&D) more than any other system (except maybe GURPS) so for it I'd say: Half-elf Charlatan.

The charlatan has only one ability and is otherwise the crappiest class in existence (fights like a magic-user, gets no thief skills even though it's a thief class, etc). The charlatan's one ability more than makes up for all of that, though: charlatans can spend experience and gold to learn almost any class ability in the game.

So you could end up with a character that gets a monk's unarmed strikes, magic-user spells, and the battlemage's ability to wear armor with a reduced chance of spell failure. Or one that casts divine and arcane magic with equal ease and can pick locks better than any thief. Or any of a nearly infinite number of possibilities.

Okay to clarify some stuff, this is D&D only, I'm not going to impede your MM, Vampire, or Call of Cthulu games.
Second, when you pick the race/class combo, assume you're playing in whatever edition can support them, so don't worry about getting "stuck" with 1e/2e/3x/4e (unless that combination was only viable in one edition, in that case you should have picked something else :p)
Ex: my Dragonborn Fighter doesn't affect my Droid Soilder in Star Wars, but I am limited to 4th (which I'm actually okay with )

Human Paladin.

I played one in my first (and only, sadly) long running 3E campaign, and it was the first thing that I wanted to play upon reading the 4E PHB. I just like Paladins, and I have trouble really getting interested in other races like Elves.

I am pretty surprised. How can everyone of you just ignore the most powerful, terrifying, epic, juicy race/class combo of All RPGs' history...?

I am a HALFLING ROGUE.

Nothing compares to that.
The big-and-bold Lady Fighter stroking your head with tenderness and talking to you in a childish tone.
And you reply, cold as stone, quietly, in a slightly Hispanic accent, from under your velvet black hat:

"I am fortythree, madam. You're eighteen... Please, let's stop this, uh?"

3.5 Half Elf Sorceror/Fighter/Raumathari Battlemage armed with a bastard sword.
or
3.5 Human Barbarian with PHB2 variant/Fighter armed with a spiked chain and a cigarette.

Sometimes, the urge to just be a moderate outcast with extreme destructive capabilities appeals to me. I may need help.

4.0?Half Elven Marshal/whatever/whatever.

Charasmatic and tough? The ability to boss....er...lead others? Hell yeah.

Realistically, I'm a huge fan of any class based around charisma, because in my personal belief, that doesn't mean I trained in battle formations and arcane knowledge. I just happen to be really damn talented, persuasive,or at least better at convincing others I am.

Definitely human but tough call between cleric and crusader. If only to break the monotony I'd probably have to go with cleric because of the more varied number of feats and spells I can use compared to the crusader's feats and maneuvers across the many characters.

4.0- Half-elf Swordmage/Wiz (Wandering SM or Symbarch)...or maybe bard.

3.5- Single class: Druid

Or maybe Monk or Monk/... since It wouldn't matte rif I'm weak I'm better than the 1st lvl commoners.
