imprisionment, as a spell-like ability

This is a hard one so you will need a thinking cap

facing a Paeliryon (fiend folio, cr22), I am the front damage doer, it knows everything about the whole party. If I am imprisioned the rest of the party can't over come it. All other things it can do are countered already. I can take it down in 3 rounds, maybe two if rolls are good, by hack and slash. Party is high enough level for eighth level magic spells, 7th level cleric and 5th level psionic (egoist).

contingency only does 6th level spells, can't counterspell spell like ability, its a touch spell like ability so no absorbtion or cancellation rods. don't know when it is coming but after three rounds no longer an issue. no saves allowed, I could make nearly any save if that was a possibility (vagely remember a magic item like that). Freedom spell not an option for us during combat. epic levels of magic resistance not possible. SR is 25; it only needs a 5 on d20 to beat it.

We can avoid contact for enough time to make nearly any item and funds are not a problem, we can not do epic items. Have time even for research.

DM is smart and knowledgeable; he is exceedingly fair and wants us to win but not if we are stupid.

Its minions take out our minions so no help possible there, DM edict.

any ideas, we are not limited to versions of game.

Level: Sor/Wiz 9
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Creature touched
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Will negates; see text
Spell Resistance: Yes

When you cast imprisonment and touch a creature, it is entombed in a state of suspended animation (see the temporal stasis spell) in a small sphere far beneath the surface of the earth. The subject remains there unless a freedom spell is cast at the locale where the imprisonment took place. Magical search by a crystal ball, a locate object spell, or some other similar divination does not reveal the fact that a creature is imprisoned, but discern location does. A wish or miracle spell will not free the recipient, but will reveal where it is entombed. If you know the target’s name and some facts about its life, the target takes a -4 penalty on its save.

And, the Demon has DC 15+ Spell level as listed in his stats... This means you need to beat a 26 for your Will Save. However, it knows your character, so you're going to have to beat a DC 30. Furthermore, you need to remember that it's reach is 30 feet. [Growing finger nails.] I don't see why you're saying there isn't a save....

What level is your character? With a Cleric that can do 7th level spells, that puts you at around level 13?

3.5 players says save throw: none, same for temporal stasis.
charactors multi classed and levels 16 thru 18.

did 4th give it a save throw?

4th doesn't have saving throws like that.

And, 3.5 players handbook page 244, top of the leftmost column, has Imprisonement listed as "Saving Throw: Will Negates; see text." Text says target takes a -4 on the save if you know the target.

Temporal Statis is listed as "Fortitude Negates."

What 3.5 PHB are you using??

PHB copyright 2000 2nd printing, Mine has imprisionment on page 217 top left. Mine also doesn't say anything about the extra -4 on the DC.

I like yours better, called and left message to see if other party members have a newer printing. would look up errata but don't know if it is still supported.

Well I will use your idea and see if DM has your printing date or mine. If yours then the Baatezu dies. I can make the DC 30 save.

Hey thanks for the help, at the very least I might need to pick up a newer version PHB. I am waiting to get the v.4 until all the books are available. Don't like piecemeal purchasing.

you do realize that when all the 4e books are available, then it'll be time for 5e

I see your problem mln: You have the 3.0 Player's Handbook, which was printed in 2000. You need the 3.5 Player's Handbook, first printed in 2003, which fixed a LOT of issues with 3e.

As for 4th edition, the only book you need to play is the Player's Handbook. The rest are going to be published over time, it's just the way publishing a game system like this works. Everything beyond the Player's Handbook is extra, not neccessary but useful to do different things.
