| #1jester619Mar 01, 2009 2:08:04 | i posted this on another board but im not getting many responses or much insight...me and the DM are having a slight variance on interpretation of the text... the situation is basically this...are the wardings that an initiate raises considered abjurations in regards to the applicability of the spell focus and greater spell focus feats required to obtain the class?? in the class description they are referred to as "potent abjurations" and also is the Save DC for the veils (18+primary spellcasting modifier (int or cha respectively)+ spell level) or is it just (18+primary spellcasting modifier (int or cha respectively))??? |
| #2lormadorMar 01, 2009 6:46:12 | I don't think it's relevant whether the wards are considered abjurative or not. They aren't spells: so feats like SPELL focus won't work with them. |
| #3TiarnMar 01, 2009 8:27:02 | Lormador is correct, spell focus will not work since they are not considered spells (or even spell-like abilities). They are simply another way of using magic defensively. The DCs are plainly stated as being 18 + relevant modifier (such as Int for wizards, Char for bards/sorcerers, etc) and that's it. Nothing else. |

They are simply another way of using magic defensively. if its that formula then an 8th level abjuration spell would have a higher save DC than the highest ward i could raise for example: Prismatic wall is an 8th level spell so its save would be as follows: 10+8(spell level)+9(int)+2(spell focus+greater spell focus)= 29 DC now the Violet veil the highest an IotSV can raise is equivalent to a 8th level spell: 18+9(int)= 27 DC in the Complete Arcane wardings ARE classified as a (sp) spell-like ability. would that change anything at all about the applicability of the feats?? and in the paragraph about the save DC formula for the veils it mentions a blurb about the equivalent spell levels of the veils...does that mean that it is also formulated into the calculation or not?? |

If anything, it supports the fact that they're not applicable. and in the paragraph about the save DC formula for the veils it mentions a blurb about the equivalent spell levels of the veils...does that mean that it is also formulated into the calculation or not?? If you're asking what I think you're asking, then no. That is just a note, used for other game-related goodies, but not the DC. |
