| #1dunaminAug 04, 2009 10:21:47 | My old 3.5E group is getting back together to embark on a 4E campaign. Two of us have already enjoyed 4E since it launched via play-by-post gaming, and a third has skimmed the rules and is looking forward to DMing (but has little DM experience from 3.5E). Our fourth is a bit hesitant, traditionalist minded, and have yet to dig into the rules - but he’s willing to try it out. We all have very little time nowadays, and this is the first opportunity in years for all of us to get together and play. I’m slightly worried whether my fourth friend will like it, so I’m looking for advice on how to make this a fun and successful transition into 4E. So, my traditionalist friend is playing a human paladin and my 4E-experienced friend will play either a swordmage or a warlord (genasi, I think). I’m pretty open to any concept, so I’m thinking of taking on a striker to cover more roles and present the game more as intended. What would you suggest to play, if your greatest concern was demonstrating the appeal of the game? I’m thinking something mobility-focused since mobility and position is a strong tactical element in 4E, and preferably a class with incentive to do something different every turn. Thanks in advance! |

Vangard weapon and horned helm add +1d8 and + 1d6 to charges and warlords get quite a few powers that let them charge. Pick a race that gives bonuses to charge, like minotaur and a big weapon. That should give you a striker feel while being a heal bot. Not to mention keep an eye on the at will augmentation feats, i'm pretty sure there is one that lets you charge with an at-will. Now if he beats you to warlord, i'd consider sorcerer. A nice striker controller mix. You can MC into rogue and go dagger master for some real crazy fun. |

I gave mine the bardic dilletante feat for multiclass and took the Mythic Skald paragon path from the class act bard article. There is also the avenger or the monk if you are looking for a really intriguing way to bring them into the fold. Both those classes take a little more skill to play than the other strikers. (at least I think so, although the avenger requires more coordination with the defender to try and set up the extra damage bonuses every turn) If you want easiest go for artful dodger rogue. He's very straight forward and gets a lot of bonuses to attack so he's a nice striker because he almost always hits and getting combat advantage is not so tough with good teamwork and power selections. :D |
