| #1ultimate_capJun 15, 2009 12:17:05 | Is there a Skill Challenge for this? I have an eladrin fighter in my game who is attempting to chase down an ice dwarf (homebrew race) who is mounted on boarback. The boars running speed is 10, the eladrins is 9. They are running accross what basically amounts to frozen tundra. The dwarf has a head start of 60 squares. Is there any way for the eladrin to realistically chase down this boar? Is there a way to make this a skill challenge (or opposed skill challenge) or is it best to simply say, there is no way you can catch that mounted dwarf? Thanks! |

Don't know the rules, but it seems to me there's always a chance someone/thing could literally stumble across some irregularity in the landscape, or through fatigue and land on their face. Dexterity and stamina would come to bear on that... |

Run it as a Skill Challenge, but using Athletics, Acrobatics, things like that, because while the Dwarf's boar will be running around obstacles like Chasms or an Ice Flow or some such, the Eladrin will be going over them! Also, allow the Party to help out in any way they can think of, like boosting his speed, teleporting ahead a bit and giving him a boost up on a jump over something, etc. Any ideas they have that are truly successful should also count as a single success. Hope that helps! ![]() |

Sooner or later one or the other has to get tired and fall behind. You could lose his trail or conversely the enemy might get lost or something like that and lose time. Another tactic would be to pretend to give up. The boar can outrun you at full tilt, but he isn't going to keep that up mile after mile. Eventually if your not visibly persuing he'll probably slow down or even stop and you could sneak up. So I would say nature, endurance, athletics, and maybe stealth would be usable skills. |
