I'm not sure what you're doing here. Specifially, I'm not sure what those numbers to the right are.

bab:14

As a level 8 Fighter, your BAB is +8. BAB doesn't include any ability score modifiers, or any modifiers at all for that matter. That's why it's called the base attack bonus.

tell me if i need to add skills or any other skills or change anything.

In order to judge a Fighter build, we really need to see your feats.

Numbers at the right appear to be the relevant bonus. I'm not sure how he's getting +8 from a DEX of 22. For that matter I'm not sure how he's managed a STR of 23 and a DEX of 22 on a Level 8 elven fighter...

Shankfist:

Your numbers seem ... off. Please post your complete build, including feats and equipment.

Go to the Optimization board for this type of advice.

Please include your feats and any magical equipment.

I'm guessing your ability scores include adjustments for equipment. Otherwise, you have several scores above your racial maximum.

The Elf's +2 to Dexterity is applied directly to your Dexterity score, not your Dexterity modifier.

The Charisma bonus for a 16 is +3, not +5.

As for your feats, they're kind-of all over the place. A Fighter is most useful if he gets really good at one trick and sticks to it. This guy is going to be competent (but not impressive) in a lot of different areas.

You don't qualify for Cleave or Great Cleave, since you don't have Power Attack. That's just as well, though, since Cleave and Great Cleave aren't very good feats past about level 4. You probably don't want to stand within melee range of two creatures strong enough to threaten you, and if your enemies aren't dangerous it doesnt' really matter how long it takes to eliminate them. You'd probably be better off replacing them with Power Attack and Combat Reflexes, and then replacing the Greatsword with a reach weapon (I like the glaive).

Deflect Arrows requires a free hand, so it won't help when you're using your Greatsword (assuming you want to threaten attacks of opportunity). However, it'll be nice in archery duels. If you want to keep those bow feats, it may be interesting to hang onto those. Also, its prerequisite Improved Unarmed Strike lets you threaten adjacent squares even when you use a reach weapon (since you can kick and headbutt people even with your hands full). But then, you could threaten adjacent squares with armor spikes; the only advantage to Improved Unarmed Strike is that (as I understand) unarmed strikes benefit from Power Attack.

For the average Fighter, Mounted Combat is a waste of a feat. For Mounted Combat to work, you need a mount that scales with your level-- a Paladin's mount, a Druid's animal companion (Ranger companions don't scale fast enough), or a quadrupedal cohort. Maybe an Improved Familiar (as the feat from the DMG), but that would take more work than it's probably worth. Anything else is likely to die from incidental damage, like if it happens to get caught in a Fireball that was aimed at you (or even someone standing next to you). Another option would be the Wild Cohort feat, which gives you an animal buddy somewhere between a Ranger's animal companion and a Druid's.

Find something to replace Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialization. They can be nice for certain builds, but yours doesn't appear to be one of them; you're taking feats for multiple weapon styles. Rapid shot, maybe?

With an Intelligence, Strength, and Dexterity like that, I'm surprised you didn't go for a spiked chain tripper. Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Spiked Chain, Combat Expertise, Improved Trip, and Combat Reflexes will go a long way toward keeping enemies on the ground instead of bashing your party's heads in. Power Attack would be good too, for those times when you're fighting something too big to trip reliably.

Long story short: Choose one or two things to focus on, rather than trying to do five or six.

And if you do make a thread on the Character Optimization boards, also be sure to tell them what sources are available. It looks like you're working with the Core 3 (Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual).

thanks crimson death for the tips. I will ask my dm if i can switch out my feats since our guys are in a major city and have lots of down time. I will probably go for a spiked chain or a glaive and a bow and i will focus on those things. Oh yes I am working with the core books and the races of dragon and the warriors compendium supplements. I might be able to switch out my longbow for a great bow out of the warriors compendium.

Your hp are about right for a "normal" fighter although I'd usually expect a few more from a fair CON. What you have for stats just makes anything possible depending entirely on what you face. As long as you don't deliberately sabotage your character ANY fighter build with those stats should be more than capable of tackling a CR 8, even alone, and expect to win.

weapons
( magical )great sword:to hit +20/+15 dmg 2d6+10 has +5 to hit and dmg
Mwk.Comp.Longbow:to hit +16/+11 dmg 1d8+8
Mwk.Heavy Flail:to hit +14/+9 dmg 1d10+6

+5 weapon is way too high for a 8th level fighter. I know fighter must put half their wealth in their weapons but here you have a weapon which worth like 5 times your total wealth.

the hit is also wrong. levle 8th = +8/+3
with 23 str its a bonus of +6 and the weapon is +5 so +11 to all attack
8+11 = 19 and 3+ 11 = 14, +19/+14 as final.

22 dex isn't +8 it's + 5, so you attack with the Mwk is +14/+9
and the damage is only 1d8, not 1d8+8

yeah i got the great sword from my first dm and we were using his dads first edition books and some 3.5 and had a sorts of super crazy power on it. Me and my party asked if we could take away the powers because they were broken and just replace it with plus +5. The powers would have mad the sword impossible to beat and would have made the game no fun.

right now i am going to ask my current dm if i can rebuild the feats and weapons into a spiked chain fighter or a glaive fighter with a great bow from the warriors compendium.

It sounds to me like you should start over and rebuild within the rules. Edition 3.5 is both better and worse at handing out magic than the earlier editions but unlike the earlier editions characters of the same class can be distiguished much more easily. In 2ed any two 8th level fighters stripped of gear would be nearly identical except for stats (which is why stats are HUGE in earlier editions) but in 3.5 you could have two 8th level fighter whos only similiarities are their base attack and saves.

When updating old stuff keep the flavor when possible but work within the newer rules.

22 dex isn't +8 it's + 5

Not quite. An ability score of 22 has a bonus of +6.

Bonus = (Score-10)/2, rounded down

how long has your group been playing this game? In all honesty it seems like you guys just picked up the books and rolled 8th levels.

from the extreme amount of skill points to 1 extra feat (i counted while talking to people so i may have miscounted) and the ability scores that have already been covered.

Your character is a mess. Try reading the 3.5 books to learn the rules.
