Looking for a good character personality table

Hey guys,

I'm trying to write up a number of characters as examples, and one thing that would make things easier is having a die table of personality traits, tailored for PCs - a lot of the tables I've seen are tailored for NPCs, so they tend to reflect traits that make for interesting NPCs, and not traits that make interesting PCs.

Any links or otherwise?

Why wouldn't the NPC lists work? If you can lay your hands on some 1e stuff, there are some good charts in the DMG. Sometimes I just make characters because I find it fun. What I do is find the personality first and create the character around it. I usually start by googling up images and seeing what the picture suggests in terms of background and personality.

I've found that NPC tables (at least, the one's I've seen, which do not include the 1st ed DMG) tend to be more oriented around things that make compelling characters when the players aren't interacting with them all the time, or that simply don't work well in player characters at all.

Well, if you can get a 1eDMG it has charts for things like appearance (slovenly, prim, etc.), general mood (happy, morose), and personality (introverted, extroverted, suspicious) and I'm not sure but think there is a chart for behavior tics if you're so inclined. There are other charts, too. When I get home, I'll post the headers of what categories they have if that will help you decide whether or not to go for a 1e DMG.
