Jan 12, 2010 11:48:32 I have a drow (obviously) player that wants to know how one goes about proposing in DND, in drow society, by Eilistraee or what have you. Does anyone know where I can get this info?

Jan 12, 2010 12:05:58 No idea, honestly, but unless her alignment changed, (What alignment is she in 4e? Are you playing 4e?) I'd doubt she'd be very tradition bound. Also, the drow who follow her would probably want a clean break from their evil past, so using old drow traditions wouldn't be very helpful.

Possibly suggest to the player that they could perhaps create their own tradition to replace old drow methods, or that they should do what is appropriate for the couple, regardless of stuffy ol' tradition?

Jan 12, 2010 12:25:28 We're playing 3.5 and his alignment is Chaotic Good. I agree that traditional drow methods would hardly be appropriate. I've tried googling every version of marriage and eilistraee that I can think of but no dice. I do like the idea of doing their own tradition. That could be a great chance for role-playing.

Jan 12, 2010 19:51:13 I don't think there is any marrage information in D&D (in the "in-character, how-to" sense) and Eilistraee has been dropped at any rate.

Jan 12, 2010 20:39:35 Invent your own interpretation of what a marriage ceramony would be under Eilistraee's church. Just remember that Eilistraee likes to dance in the nude, so there probably would be a nude ceramony. (Nothing improper, just nude. I think it would probably go along the lines of Star Trek's Next Generation Betazed marriage ceramony.)

If non-drow are invited, and the ceremony is at night (Of a full moon, of course) consider some lighting so they don't bumble around blindly.

Consider someone calling a hunt for a animal to serve for the feast. Maybe this is how the priest shows their blessing of the union?

Held on the night of a full moon.
A ritual hunt.
Dancing and festive music.
Ritualised dueling.

The bride and groom (and priestess) would probably wear as little as possible (within the bounds of what they are realisitcally comfortable with) and would probably be expected to make promises to strive to make each other happy, to be as open and honest with each other as the naked moon, and to strive to live up to the Maiden's beliefs.

If both PC's don't worship the Maiden, they could also have a joint ceremony with a priest of another faith. In which case the "looser" propriety of the Ellistraeen faithful could clash with more prudish members of other faiths ("You want me to wear what?!?")
