| #1anarchistheroSep 29, 2010 7:54:05 | Hi guys, first post here. just wanted to say hi, and ask for some advice. Now, the character idea and then how I am gonna implement it.. The character is meant to be a warrior that can use spells, and dual weilds.. I assumed Id do this as a Wiz/Barb, now most people wont be happy with this, but I dont PLAN to use spells while raging, its one of the other, and at best I'd be using medium armour, I could be persuaded to go light and have the HP soak the rest.. At the start Id use a single weapon, but after the BAB or enough feats are amasses I'd plan to switch to the dual. Although, I plan to multi into the Eldrich Knight when I can, but I also heard alot about the Duskblade which seems pretty useful, and just as one class, would this be worth considering, I'm going for point buy and stats probably seem 14 Str 12 Dex 14 Con 14 Int 12 Cha 12 Wis So, I KNOW I rambled, but any ideas/ help? Please atleast TRY and humour me rather than mumbling about the undesirability..? X |

| #3anarchistheroSep 29, 2010 13:11:10 | Obviously Players1 and DMS, and mosta the others none of the really obscure ones though, and since I'm gonna be with people that I can't guarantee have it all, it might have to be fairly mainstream But currently anything is good X |

See: Duskblade and Warmage, PHB2 and I think Complete Mage? The Warmage was actully printed a couple of times, mind you. In either case, both of these classes have some ability to negate Spell Failure for armour, an ability that does scale with level. Duskbaldes do have a reduced casting progession, but more options for how you cast, including through melee weapons. Of course, if you were looking at just melee anyways, you could always look at a Tome of Battle character. |

Not like it's hard to move some points around (Also, your "high" stats seem rather low to me...), and perhaps you shouldn't be trying to be good in every stat? Spread yourself too thin, and you're just not too effective at anything. I speak from experience on that one. Wizard's an odd choice, though. You want something that's going to allow you to negate ASF somehow. There's a variant Sorceror that helps with that, I think. Regardless, the Barbarian has no mental stat focus, really, as far as I can recall - in other words, it's utterly TERRIBLE synergy. Making it very far from your best bet. |
| #7t_stalkerSep 30, 2010 14:32:38 | AnarchistHero, from your post I take it that you are not a person that would enjoy himself pouring over mechanics and looking for synergies. I don't mean that in a bad way, I'm just trying to get a picture of you as a person to figure out what build would suit you the most. Personally I'd advise you to just keep it simple. Duskblade isn't a bad class on it's own, they can fit the striker role pretty well in the early levels. I'm AFB now, but a Duskblade X/Ranger 2 -for the dual wielding- sounds like it could do what you are asking for. |
| #8zerosumSep 30, 2010 14:42:23 | AnarchistHero, you might have a better time on the d20 CharOp and d20 CharDev boards as you seem to be pigeonholeing yourself into this concept of a Barbarian/Wizard/Eldritch Knight but I'm certain there are not just mechanically better combinations but stylistically better combinations to choose from and those two boards will have a wider breadth of knowledge for digging them out. Also, they're going to want this going in: Available books, level, and a strong character-concept. ("Dual wielding arcane caster" alone will put them in a very different direction than Barbarian/Wizard.) |
