Our current campaign is ongoing, but nevertheless I am trying to think of new characters in case the unfortunate happens or the campaign comes to an end. Note that we play mostly in 3.5. The cleric I had in mind is very unique in his outlook. I have the basic concept of him, but I have no real idea of how to work it in terms of gameplay. The cleric is one devoted to fighting against evil outsiders and undead, but does so in a different way than RAAAR SMITE! KILL IN HOLY FIRE that you sometimes see with this game. Instead, he fights fire with fire. Though he is a cleric, and is definitely not evil, his magic is inherently fiendish in nature while at the same time he can channel a measure of positive energy in the form of heals. Instead of directly confronting devils, liches, and demons, he seeks to undermine their advantage. It is a whole lot easier for companions to fight undead if they're just standing around, gaping stupidly at this strange, dark priest. Because he associates with dark powers, he is one with plenty of moral flexibility while at the same time isn't reckless or unruly. He seeks out adventures mostly as a way of funding his travels. He seeks no glory or renown for his work, and he views this work as his calling - which he will pursue to the end of his days. In an adventuring party, he is the primary source for knowledge on the undead and evil outsiders, such as demons and devils. He deals deadly harm to these groups while at the same time heals his companions should they need it. He is not a physical fighter, though he can give a whack on the head with a mace if he needs to. The idea is, how exactly does this translate in terms of stats and game info? How does one have dark power while associating with a good diety? Is it better not to have a real diety here? Again, I have no experience playing divine characters. |

My 3.5-jutsu is rusty, but you might be able to swing it if you just follow the ideal of protecting the world form outsiders, instead of one particular god. Alternately, a neutral cleric can(iirc) channel positive or negative energy(his choice). |
