Ok here we go:

I played my first D&D boardgame when I was a toddler , I loved it and although my mum would read the storybook and i would make most the rules up as i went along it was the begining of my rpg love.

Since then ive played pretty much every MMORPG around but alwasy just wanted to play that simple tabletop game again ! Were im located I dont know anyone who plays Tabletops , everyones a PC game addict but a long time ago I google searched "D&D Tabletop Online" in the off chance there was an online PC version of the tabletop.

Anywho , I stumbled accross a youtube post about 4th edition and how there will be an online dungeon creator were players can link and play the tabletop over the internet *joy*.

However I never could find this item , I even emailed wizzards of the coast a few times but still never got my hands on this software.

Anyway about a year has passed and ive found blog posts about this product so here I am!

I want to play D&D just like the tabletop , but online if possible (not that D&D online World of warcraft style game) So can anyone here help ? Or am i searching for an item that does not excist

Many thanks and i look forward to replys

Doesn't exist yet and haven't heard Wizards commit to a date when it will.

There are other tools that let you do similar stuff, but they don't have 4e rules encoded into them. You can pretty much use them as a shared map tool.

It's still in development.

However, there are a lot of Play-by-Post games.  Someone else will have to direct you to the good places for that, as I don't play PbP myself.

Thanks for the replys , Dam I really hoped it would be out.

Ive heard of simular tools to make dungeons but nothing you can actually link and play other players online with .

Well if anyone has some decent links to anything like described , or some PBP games Id appreciate it

you can find people to play with online, The most recommended set of software to allow this is RPtools (search for maptools).

you can also use online "whiteboards", its basically a chatroom with a space everyone can draw on. and a vent or teamspeak to talk to each other.

also you might be surprised who in the area would be willing to play. ask your local comic/gaming store if you can hang up a flyer saying you are looking for players, check the looking for players/looking for groups sections of various forums, someone might be willing to come from a neighboring town (i'm driving 40 mins to my 4e game)

Awesome il look into that software now , As for asking people to come play I dont think im experienced enough .I dont actually own any of the D&D tabletop stuff anymore as none of my friends have been into it as a hobby. Im a complete begginer and would need to learn how to play before hosting a game and anoying everyone with my lack of D&D skill hah.

Thanks for all the help, Ive been settleing for old pc games like Buldars Gate and Nether Winter Nights to get some of that D&D feel.

best solution:  play it in person

at a table with friends.

It's simply more fun that way.

wizards.com/DnD/TryDnD.aspx If you want to learn the 4e rules. If you've played both BG and NWN, then you probably know that editions are pretty different from one another.

NWN does have online support, however, it's just a bit of a crap shoot. There are also ways to play tabletop ish games online if you can get a group together.

If you're willing to shell out the cash for the software there is a thriving community of gamers that play using FantasyGrounds. www.fantasygrounds.com/ . Just check their forums to find people looking for games. The program has been supported for years and it has a variety of rules and game systems built directly in to it.

It's only real draw back is it isn't cheap. But if you really want to play with your friend in the Navy or some thing this is the best way to go about it.

Since I don't see a link anywhere yet - you should check out the PbP groups that are here on the boards. We have a great variety even for just D&D from freeform roleplaying (Garic's City, Map of the Planes) to more structured roleplaying (PbP Haven, Real Adventures) to more combat-oriented (Core Coliseum).

All of the groups linked in my sig are located here on the Wizards community. If you have a question about any of them - feel free to stop by and/or send it via PM.
