Need help with 17th level character (v3.5)

Apr 17, 2011 12:32:48 I am making a 17th level charactor (wohoo!) and am looking for a bit of advice.
I was thinking it would be fun to make it attack of opportunity focused ( big reach, high dex, the feat that i forget the name right now (maybe combat reflexes) that allows you mulitple attacks of opp.)
The dm has no restrictions.
Basicly i am looking for a very big race that gets a plus to dex... if there are any.

Apr 18, 2011 13:05:28 Hoo-boy. 17th-level? Cue the jokes that you're two levels late to playing D&D 3.5e. I think Salla's oversimplifying things: While being CoDzilla usually does solve most problems at high levels of play, it's not particularly satisfying unless you're in a group that's full of optimizers. Best to at least try to come up with something that fulfills the OP's desires.

To really engage in Dex-based AoO shenanigans, I'd think a swordsage with a spiked chain would give you rather obscene reach while also being capable of utilizing Weapon Finesse. Throw in strongarm bracers from the Magic Item Compendium and you can wield a Large spiked chain with a Medium-sized character, giving yourself 20' of reach. As far as race goes, your racial mods really don't matter once you start being able to buy +6 enhancement items, but the free +2 never hurts: Of the Core races, that leaves you with elves. Ideally you could talk your DM into letting you use XP buyoff for level-adjustments, so you could grab something like a hobgoblin and gnab useful abilities while incurring a modest -1,000xp penalty.

At any rate: You don't need a naturally Large or bigger race for AoO insanity. Such certainly can help, but given the LAs on most of those things, they're usually not worth it. Especially for a Dex monkey that needs every last HD it can get.

D20 mechanics questions will reach a larger, more knowledgeable audience in the D20 mechanics forums.

You'll (obviously) get answers here, but the question will reach a frankly better audience for it if you ask it there as well. "What's A Player To Do" is mostly D&D4 players, and mostly about inter-group out-of-game issues.

("I played CoDzilla and now my friends won't talk to me and they spit on the sidewalk as I pass. What should I do?" - THAT is a perfect question for this forum.)
