#1 thorgirm103 Jun 30, 2009 19:44:05	Really what do i do with it lock it up or use it.??? (Boasting) See i have a dilemma i have a Dragon mountain box set the box is a little bludgeoned (very little). Every thing in this box set is in perfect condition ,other then say book 1 on cover one corner folded.It has 3 books. The set has all the holders for the card board monster pieces still together and everything is in perfect condition even the poster. Also the players response card which is to be sent to TSR is still in perfect condition. It Has bit more maps etc but i described the beef of the box set. Now what will amaze you is i found it at a used book store for $15.00,and the 1st edition rulebook for $7.00. Any way's i have a few questions. How do you use the dungeon maps(in full color no less) with out the PC's seeing where the rooms are etc.? The maps are so huge that no DM's screen can hide them, so how does that work? The module is for 2edition and was the largest ever during the time for 2nd edition for 1992.(the poster says so.) If i can i want the poster framed it has a Awesome dragon and the word WOW!This is like the biggest thing ever it's the stuff.(not the actual text but you get the point.) on it. So should i hold on to this or keep it locked up or should i ever use it. Most used copy's now on ebay go for $24 new $59( if your interested.) Aren't i Lucky! Really what do i do with it lock it up or use it.???

This whole post was to tell people about a rare item i have so they can go ohh interesting ,and so on my main questions where. !how do you use thew maps with out the pcs seeing all the rooms they haven't been in,2 and should i ever use this to play with friends or should i lock it up in my closet for eternity to preserve. If it pleases you i shall go over my first post and correct as many errors as possible.
#4 Shiftkitty Jun 30, 2009 22:24:35	Are you a gamer or a curator? Play that sucker! I have a near mint B1 stuffed into a pile of "Things to Pull Inspiration From". I have pencil notes jotted in some very old modules. My 1e stuff still gets yanked from the shelves and put into play when I need it.
#5 zackblack Jul 01, 2009 10:56:16	#1 Get a couple pieces of foamcore. It's reasonably cheep around here (1$ per sheet) and cut out room and hallway sized pieces. You can then cover up the entire map and revile the parts the players see as they enter them. OR #2 Scan the map (one 8x10 piece at a time) and make color printouts. Cut each room and corridor out separately and glue them to the aforementioned foamcore. Then you can place each piece down as the adventurers enter them. I actually do #2 quite a bit.

#7 CCS Jul 01, 2009 11:47:59	Use it. As for the maps being too big? Scan them, re-size/retouch & print back out in a smaller more user friendly scale. Or use those scans to make tiles as others have suggested. Our DM at the time this set was new worked at Kinkos on the midnight shift. So he just took the maps to work, copied-reduced each "page" (convenient how the maps all fold up to fit in the box) & re-assebled them into a form he could use.
#8 cincinnatus Jul 01, 2009 17:31:38	Dragon Mountain is not especially rare, nor is it particularly valuable. I got mine for around 15 dollars as well in very good condition. In the condition you describe (which is nowhere near mint), it's certainly not worth squirreling away somewhere hoping it will increase in value. I'm glad you are proud of your acquisition, but you shouldn't hope to do anything with it rather than read and play it (which I recommend! ).

#10 Artifact Jul 01, 2009 18:34:45	The box may be in decent condition (as you've described) but unless you are an actual D&D collector, you'll surely get the most enjoyment out of playing it, rather than storing it away. It's a very memorable adventure (you'll never see kobolds the same way again, I promise ;)). I highly recommend finding a group and running it. I've many boxed sets from that time period and most have remained in decent condition, even after extensive playing. Unless the group is excessively rowdy, the box should survive table-play okay. That being said, don't bring long out-of-print products to table if they have any nostalgic value. For instance, I don't bring the D&D Basic booklets to the table anymore. These books are valuable to me and would be too hard to replace if damaged.
#11 thorgirm103 Jul 02, 2009 13:28:21	I have 3 books for basic keep on the borderlands(these are some of the earlier reprints back in the 80's i have 2 copies different edition of isle of dread,and the 3rd edition basic D&D, my 1st edition DM guide is the 79 revised version and my,player's hand book is from 78,6th edition.I see how he new edition's are and i would rather use first edition anyday.
