Technically, you only need one other player, but 4-6 is preferable. One of you is the Dungeon Master (DM), and the others are Player Characters (PCs). You'll need a Players Handbook, preferably one for each player (or as many as possibly if not everyone wants to invest in one). The DM will also need access to a Dungeon Master's Guide and a http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Monster-Manual-Roleplaying/dp/0786948523/ref=pd_bbs_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218957191&sr=8-5. All of these books should be available at any hobby-gaming store, and most major bookstores. The three together are often sold as a Box Set, for a small discount. If you can't find them locally, Amazon.com is a pretty cheap way to get them (and you can see pictures of the covers of the books). The books explain how to play, so you should spend a day together reading them and figuring things out. If you come up with a question, you can always come to the boards here and ask. As accessories, you'll probably want a vinyl Battlemat and some wet-erase markers. These will help greatly to keep track of positions in battle, which is very important. The should be available at most hobby gaming shops, or you can order them online on Amazon. Each player, including the DM, will want a set of dice, one each of four-, six-, eight-, ten-, and twenty-sided, and a percentile die (a ten-sided die with 2 digits per side). You can each buy one set, but buying in bulk is cheaper. These should be available at any hobby gaming shop, or you can order them from Chessex or Amazon. You'll need some kind of markers for the characters and the monsters, but you can use coins, beads, counters, or whatever for those. If you really want to add to the experience, many people prefer to use painted plastic miniatures. These should be available at a hobby gaming shop, though I've heard rumors that some Wal-Marts sell them. Hope that helps. Please post again if you have any more questions.
