Fellow D&D 4E Gamers'

Unable to find a group for face to face so willing to try virtual.
Looking for 3-5 players.
Looking up some programs to run 4e on...so far fantasy ground 2 is the best I can see at this time.
Please advise me if there are better ones.
Joined DDI when I seen the youtube presentation for their virtual gaming system but I dont see it anywhere or even in forums sad.gif
Free most days 9am to 3pm est. but also have Sat, Mon and Tue nights open as well.

A little about me...new to 4e just got core books a few weeks ago.
Havent played since 2nd edition but fast learner and eager to play.
Dont mind DMing.  Would rather be a player til I learn more but dont mind either way.

If anyone is interested please drop me a few lines.
Even if your new like me dont mind learning together.
Hopefully your new gaming friend

Welcome to the funhouse!

Personally I have found Maptools at RPTools.net to be superior to FG2, particularly when used with one of the D&D frameworks like DeviantNull or Rumble.
You wuz wobbed if you bought into DDI thinking to get a virtual table top.  A few months after 4e came out with the books advertising the vtt, character visualizer etc it all disappeared and few/no WotC employees allowed to publicly acknowledge that any such things ever existed.

You will be wobbed again when you realize that the original core books are horribly outdated with the new Rules Compendium having the most up-to-date rules.  Fortunately the Character Builder comes with your subscription to DDI which includes each release's information each month.  Unfortunately they have made the choice to stop updating the CB as of September on account of 'it's hard.'

There are various places online including some of the subforums here where you can find other players looking for an online group.  The previously mentioned RPTools forums have sections dedicated to people finding others for games from one-off LFRs to full blown campaigns and more.  Myth-Weavers and Mydndgame are also good places to look.  Good luck and good hunting.

Thanks for the 411.
Just curious how and where you found the info about DDI not upating anymore...if this is the case there is no need for me to pay for a subscription.

I'd like to point out that they have said that they'll keep updating the Character Builder. It's just that a lot of people here equal one month without an update to mean that they've completely stopped updating it. You'll have to decide for yourself what side you'll take on that issue.

As for the finding a game part: If you're interested in Play by Post too, you should take a look at the links in my sig. I personally recommend real adventures and core coliseum.

The problem with that mentality that "one missed update means just a month without an update" is that it often times refuses to acknowledge the fact that a greater disorganization exists, and can often mean a greater delay, especially considering the fact that a whole bunch of books are being released around the same time. Darksun, Essentials, HotFL, Psionic Power, ect, and all of those are piling up on the Character builder update list. And rather than do what more organized companies would do, ie releasing smaller updates (like Psionic power), to give the masses a bit of a consolation update, and then release a steady stream of interim updates until they get back to schedule, or even capitalize on the fact that these books are written a while in advance, and are finalized months beforehand, when they begin printing. If they know they will have Darksun, Essentials and everything else coming close together, they could have started getting those ready to put in updates, spreading out their workload over multiple months rather than letting it all pile up. I've canceled my subscription already, since I've lost faith in their ability to keep a timely schedule and not relapse into this pattern the next time big updates are released.
