Hi me and my friends wanted to re-start an campaign that we have started there 4 years ago and put on hold last years. So we decide why not continue that campaign. the thing is the DM dont want to DM 3.5 and that game can't really go in 4e half of the party does not like 4e.

So I'm asking is there a way to play D&D without a DM. or advance in what should we do.

I have thought maybe in to finding like a random foe encounter program for my labtop. an each player become DM for the quest and play they character as npc.

you may say find an other DM dum*ss well the thing if we do we need to teach him about what have happen during de story so far the houserule that have been implate in ours characters. plus we finish at lvl 19 and want to start over at level 15. to make this more long lasting...

we know that we ask much... :P

and the thing too it not easy to find a DM in montreal, verdun.

sorry if i write like s**t it because I just finish work and im tired

Don't reduce your once-awesome game to a random generator and no leadership.

One of the players should step forward and assume the mantle. Draw straws for it if you're all unwilling to do it. At a certain point in your experience of this game you will have to DM to develop yourself.

Do your friends a favor and volunteer.

I have thought about it. the thing is my character is one important character.

My character is like frodo for Lotr. My character is a sorcerer bloodline dragon that have lost is family and want to restore is family like sasuke in naruto
he have a ring that only he can carry it. the ring is call the ring of taiia

if you look in the deity and demigod book she is know have the destructif goddess/ well everything.

But she is seal in the ring. One of my goal is to destroy something that have been created since the beginning of time :P and the other goal is to kill is grand father ( he the one that have kill my char family

But I think about it for dming it

I don't like GURPS, but that doesn't mean that if my friends want to play it I won't join them because it isn't my favourite system. ;)

So, someone in you group should achieve immortal power by turning the stick up his ass into an immovable rod. :P

Is the original DM willing to run a 4e game? I would say that the players should give it a try (and try to keep an open mind). They may be pleasantly surprised.

The old DM.

What I would do is ask the old DM what the story line was and then I would take over being the DM.

Why not everyone be DM? DMG 4e page 13 under "Multiple DMs". Just have each player switch being DM every game. You can all come together before you start the game and have a few games where you talk about basic story plot and who is DMing when.

Note: You don't have to play 4e to use the 4eDMG. It has great tips for DMing in general.

Could npc your current pc character...or have someone else dm until you can finish off his little plot...or just have them die, give the pcs more motivation to go on.

I'm perfectly willing to play a system I don't like if my friends want to play, but there's no way in hell I'd ever GM a system I don't like.

As for suggestions - Get someone to take over the DM mantle and start a new campaign. Trying to continue the old one just won't feel right without the original DM behind it.

Well I still could DM it because I was kind of helping the DM so I know some stuff.

If I DM I will need some help. :P

Still we have decide to set it 14 years later since the last game so any DM could do the job... I think

I would say make you're character an NPC. If you really like the ring idea, have some event happen that kills you're character/NPC and/or have the ring pass on to one of the PCs.

I'll give you some advice and say you may not want to DM, but DMing and playing you're character is a pain. Better to focus on DMing and the story, believe me, it works better that way.

I am not a fan of switching the DM. There are story elements that are lost. There are no long term mysteries.

With that being said, why don't you all make a character and take turns being DM. There DM's character will just be an NPC. Switch DMs every game. When someone is finally feeling up to the challenge, you can assign them the permanent job of Dungeon Master.

And nobody has mentioned that he's probably having trouble not only because it's 3.5 but because it's high level 3.5, where an hour of prep could vanish in the first minute?
